Green Papya - Menu

Our group was well taken care of by the staff on the night. Food came out quick and was of good quality. Toilets were below ground level, as many are in London, and are well over due for renovations.

The last time I was here was years ago. I tried their stew beef noodle soup this time, and it was very tasty. Juicy chunks of meat with noodle cooked al dente. I would happily come back to try other dishes.

This restaurant offers excellent value for money, with delicious food and quick service. It's a fantastic spot for an affordable dinner on Mare Street. My personal favorites were the Bo Nam Bo beef dish and the crispy fried fish.

AMAZING FOOD. A group of us practically ordered all the starters. From the soft shell crab to the deep fried Aubergines, everything was delicious. I ordered some extra prawn summer rolls to take home. Fresh flavoured food. Lovely staff. 100% recommended and will be back VERY soon :

I've never really eaten Vietnamese. as I now live between the two hearts of the Vietnamese cuisine in london, the kingsland road and the mare street, I decided that I had to give vietnamesen another shot. I have spit a few blogs that I have put down on the green papaya in the mare street.

Green Papaya is a Vietnamese restaurant, it seems very popular with most tables full when we got there around eight... The décor is pretty grim in honesty and the service was quite erratic but my god was the food nice. I went for the Salt, Chilli and Garlic White Fish starter; little nuggets of fish dusted and deep fried in the most amazing savoury, spicy coating. Despite its popularity, I was able to secure a table for lunch. The restaurant offers a blend of classic Vietnamese dishes along with some Xi'an noodles for added variety. The interior is much more appealing than many of the neighboring Asian restaurants. The staff is polite and attentive, ensuring guests are well taken care of. The menu is relatively concise. After some deliberation, I opted for the stir-fried tofu with eggplant and rice. While the portion could have been a bit larger, the dish was overall delicious, quite spicy, and had a generous amount of tofu. Overall, it’s a great choice for lunch!

One of my all-time favourite Hackney restaurants with great food and marvellous staff. Try the banana flower salad, the squid with spicy basil sauce, the pork and Vietnamese olive hot pot, the braised fish fillets with egg plant (aubergine) or the slow cooked belly of pork with mushrooms and dried winter vegetables. Great flavours and plenty of Vietnamese staples as well, like the beef salad or herb rolls with prawns, also the Vietnamese equivalent of a pad Thai is worth getting. The decor is contemporary rustic, with bare wood floors and high ceilings. Cost-wise it is about average, with mains priced around the £7, £8, £9 mark. After trying several places on Mare Street, most of which were average to subpar, I'm thrilled to have found Green Papaya. The service was very friendly, and the prices were reasonable for the quality of food. The lamb was particularly delicious. I haven't had the chance to try the pho yet, but I’m eager to do so. One minor note: the dishes weren't as spicy as I expected, and we had to request extra chilies on the side. This might be a result of catering to tastes in an English market that is generally less familiar with the heat levels of Vietnamese cuisine.
