"We had lunch here after going up to Altenburg with our friends. The 5 of us, one 6 year old, had lunch here, in the cool shaded garden, where we enjoyed our German lunch and beers. The Leicht Raucherbier had a very slight smoky smell and not very smokey, so if you don't like the regular one, this might be one to try. I actually prefer the darker stronger one. The Radler had a nice lemonade taste to it, more so than some others I have had. The potato salad I had was the typical German one with vinegar not mayo, which I prefer, but it was lacking in some tartness, perhaps needed more vinegar. The curry sauce, I had the Curry Wurst, was delicious! Not really sweet and just a good flavor with a crunchy wurst, cooked just right and shaped into a horseshoe. The Applesauce that came with the Potato Baggers, that one of our friends ordered, was not sweet and tasted excellent! The baggers weren't greasy and tasted just right to the friend that had them, while his son really enjoyed them and the fries. one of our friends wanted to buy a ceramic beer stein, and had gone shopping the day before, finding just a couple in the inner city for 6-9 euros, which was ok, but the steins were not that interesting. Funny enough, he found two for 6 and 7 Euros, and they were the ones sold here. He bought the cheaper one, b/c he liked the smooth texture and the design was simpler. Good service here even without the English menus. A great place to just sit around, drink a beer, eat some food and relax. Not a lot of tourists here, which is nice."

It was a part of our Bamberg brewery trip, This brewery is very far from the center if you go on foot from the railway station. The food was good and the beer was tasty.

A good 15 mins walk rewards with superb views and less tourists in this lovely Biergarten! Food good quality and tasty, we offended the locals by having mustard on our pork!

So so experience. The local beer is great but the food is not remarkable and the service alright at best. The atmosphere is perhaps genuine but not really cosy. In total: OK but not more. View menu

We stopped here rather than descend into the town, the entrance provides no clue that there is a secluded, intimate bier garten at the rear. The food was a cut above the other establishments closer to the centre of town and the bier had a fresher taste- in short, a rather lovely experience. Go there on a quiet weekday afternoon and sit at the far end beside the fence, take in the view, order a bier and relax.

Typical Franconian biergarten. It's located high on the hill away from the center of the city. It's worth your travel for they offer better than average food with good friendly service. You really can't see great biergarten from outside of this establishment. Very relaxing atomosphere under the shady trees on a nice sunny day. If you make your way here, you'll enjoy one of the better biergartens in Bamberg. Enjoy!

The main room had such a pleasant warm feel about it that we dined here twice. The food was fine but it took second billing to the best lager I've ever drunk. A complex drink totally removed from the stuff produced by the continental brewing giants. The food was decent but not exciting, it's nice however to eat beef heart in a restaurant. Well cooked with the inevitable dumpling, it tempted my return. But, really I went back for the beer. View menu

Good stop for lunch. Excellent craft beer Brewed on the premises with a good food menu. All the usual German options but they are well done here. Unusually and very helpfully for Bamberg they serve food all day. Unless you are lucky enough to be able to fly to nearby Nuremberg, Bamberg is not the easiest place to get to and often you arrive just after 2 pm and it's very hard to get a decent feed until dinner time. This place is a good option Tried the schnitzel and it was very good. Nice thin slices of pork in breadcrumbs and thankfully not overdone Would recommend it

Bamberg has lots of good beer gardens (called cellars) but this was the best that I've been to and I'm surprised its not ranked higher. First of all, its up the hill south of the Altstadt. We walked (several times) but others may want to drive. It's one of the nine or so brauerei in Bamberg proper that brews its own beer. The Pils was fantastic. Once you walk though the building you end up in a wonderful courtyard shaded by trees and overlooking a valley below. The ambience is relaxed and convivial. All of the customers we saw (except ourselves) were German, so its not a tourist attraction. They have a great menu and specials. I tried the roast pork one time and goose another time. When the k...

"We were a group of English guys staying in Bamberg for a weekend of beer, sightseeing & more beer. Bamberg is, of course, the centre of the universe for fans of beer & brewing culture. One of our group found Cafe Abseits on the internet & it was possibly the best find of the weekend. I contacted the proprietor prior to our arrival to warn him of a group of 14 men in need of a hearty breakfast & some local "where to go" info. When we arrived, tables were reserved for us & we were warmly greeted by the owner who proceeded to tell us about the wonderful beer brewing heritage of Bamberg. We were served up a fantastic breakfast - the emphasis was on hearty portions rather than gourmet presentation, but we were all, without exception, greatly impressed by the quality & size of the meal. In addition to the great breakfast, Cafe Abseits has an impressive beer list, focusing mainly on local produce. We were treated to much inside knowledge from the proprietor during our ordering of beer. A man with an obvious passion for his product ! To cap it off, we were offered a sample beer, on the house, of a special beer brewed by a local independant brewer using hops grown by a local farmer. The owner didn't need to spend so much time with this level of personal attention, but he did & we were all blown away by our visit there. It's tucked away a bit, on the wrong side of the train station for most tourists making their way into town. But that only added to it's charm. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in beer who is visiting this amazing town for the weekend. I could not fault this place & will remain indebted to the owner for such a warm welcome to Bamberg."
