"We were staying locally and were recommended this pub by our hosts. When we arrived for our table we knew it would be good as the pub was lovely and warm and had a homely feel. We felt welcomed from the minute we stepped in....I orderded the steak (it did come a little more cooked than I usually have it but it was delicious) my partner had the sweet potato and chickpea curry which she really enjoyed. We left enough room for desserts which equally were delicious. Anybody looking for a dog friendly pub this is the place to visit, they have dog beds, treats and water bowls and they get just as warm welcome as us humans do."

AMAZING food and great service…the food was roasting hot, Chilli-con was fantastic, fish was beautiful and cheesy garlic bread was to die for.

Stayed at The Manor at Sway but arrived too early to check in so came here for a light lunch! Extensive menu available and prompt service. We were lucky to get a table as we arrived early so would advise booking. Great food and service.

my wife and I went to hare and hounds on the first night of our last short break in the new forest. we received a very warm welcome and we sat in the dog-friendly part of the restaurant. the service was wg and the fish...pie was delicious! the portions were w. generous and it is certainly a place to eat for those who have hunger

I love this pub, but tonight not on cratzer, the steak and ale cake was more baked than meat, as really only baked the waitress, which said I will mention to the chef. in the survey of several people have mentioned this question...and peculiarities can change suppliers, but still expected to pay the full price for a baked cake. as a scandal as all others as normal and fab.

Nice forest pub which is popular. Our party of were all very happy with their lunch, which was well timed to be served all together. Service was great very friendly and efficient. The menu is fairly standard but had a good selection of...vegetarian and vegan options as well which was appreciated. Beware that the portions are pretty substantial! Would happily come here again.

Visited for lunch, pub was not very busy yet service was very slow, food took ages, from sitting down to food arriving it took over an hour and was there almost hours by the time we had paid and left, was only intended to...be a quick bite to eat then dash. Waitresses made numerous mistakes not just on my table but others, the waitress serving us with blonde hair tied back and eye makeup was very rude and ill informed, other blonde haired young girl was pleasant. Male manager didn't seem to care. Will not be going back, sister pub in Milford on Sea much nicer.

The last time I visited the Hare Hounds, I was left in the car. Apparently, the bar area was full and the only place available was in the restaurant where the humans were told ‘they’ll have my guts for garters’ if I let you...bring the dog in here. I wasn’t too keen to return, but I never really have any say in the matter! This time though, there was room in the bar area, so in I strolled. Wow! Love it here! There were doggie beds, blankets, water bowls and treats! Heaven! The humans seemed to really enjoy their meal apparently, the fish cakes were delicious guessing we’ll be back again then!

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
