"we visited a Sunday and came 10 minutes before the kitchens closed. happy for us. I had the venison rouladen filled with pfefferlings mushrooms with sides of red cabbage and late zle. my wife had black medallions with mushroom sauce, mixed vegetables and Kaiserkartoffeln....Beide dishes were great and excellent. the venison was tender and the mushrooms worked very well together. the red cabbage was excellent and I could have had more. the pork was also excellent and lubricated in sauce. really loved the potatoes cooked with speck. However, note that they do not have credit cards. overall an excellent meal and we would definitely visit again if we returned to the opposite."

This restaurant is located in the walking area. It had some very good local game dishes and we liked it so much we went back again.

They have good local food, a lot of locals are eating there. The atmosphere is good, the prices are good, but you can pay only with cash.

It was a lovely evening to eat here. The chef was really nice and took the time to explain each dish to all of us. I highly recommend them.

Many restaurants still allow smoking but I didn't smell it in the Hexenklause! I was also very happy with their Gluhwein and Käsespätzle. Their waitresses were very friendly.

We were 6 people who visited this restaurant twice in a day. The food is lovely traditional german food. The meat was perfectly cooked and the portions were sizeable. Great place!

two days ago reservation for a party of 2. when we arrived, we were informed that they wanted to put us with another party. when we went back, they wanted to put us in us (it was 30 °C this day) we decided to find food...otherwise, less a problem would be if we had been informed during booking.

the hexenklause is a solid choice. it offers a good traditional German cuisine. nothing special but good. we had a spade with kartoffels and a huge “carving” and a laugh. for children there are classics, such as pasta with tomato sauce, meat with frits etc. service was. efficient and friendly. we sat outside, in the interior of the place looks a little old-fashioned. the prices are reasonable.

we visited henxenklause for lunch and let kase spitzel, which was a very hearty eating, well cooked and our tammies after the walk simply beautifully filled. the restaurant is very picturesque with an old German feeling, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. they even have small hexen, which are here and there cleaned around the restaurant. they let us introduce our two dogs, who were under the table and after a long walk have enjoyed a deserved rest. the price was also very reasonable, and we had well fed and happy. a highlight of our stay in resin, we look forward to our next return.

"My wife and I tried to get in on a Sunday evening, early, but not a chance. The brush-off was kind of brusk, which is why I am only giving 4 stars. But there is a reason why you need a reservation, the food and service are really good. This time we made reservations for early on a Saturday evening. And, yes, they turned away a lot of people without reservations. We went to the restaurant hungry and could not possibly finish all the food presented. Just full disclosure. More German portions than Greek. We started with tzatziki, just since we had not had fresh fzatziki in a long time, and it did not disappoint. I may never be able to eat pre-made fzatziki again. The bread was really good too, hot and fresh. My wife ordered a broccoli appetizer, which was good, but it is hard to screw up broccoli. I ordered the cream of tomato soup, which was amazing, although the promised cream was not present. I could have stopped at this point. My wife ordered 'three small pork steaks'. They were not small. Not sure what the sides were, she ate them before I had a chance to sample. The chops were not as tender as we have had, but good nonetheless. I ordered the Helena-teller, Giros, ein Suflaki und ein Suzukiyros, I really had no idea what I was ordering, but everything was excellent. Came with tomato rice and fries, both very good. I wish I could have eaten more, but we took the rest home, so there is always tomorrow.Service was prompt and efficient, perhaps a bit understaffed. To my understanding, there are/were only two other Greek restaurants in town, and one has closed or is undergoing renovations, so this is an excellent choice. (We had a good experience at Ambrosia as well, but Platon is not currently in business.) The quantity of food for the price is a great value. Highly recommended. As long as you call ahead for a reservation!"

"Before making a km walk through the forest near Bad Harzburg we decided to visit the café Winuwuk. Partly because we would like to have a coffee and a snack anyway, partly because of the interesting history and architecture of the café. It has...been designed in the early by the German sculptor and painter Bernhard Hoetger who at that time had become a member of the expressionist movement. Owners Walter and Dore Degener, artists themselves and friends of Hoetger, wanted to create a gallery in which they could show their new and young art and decided to combine that with a café for economic reasons. Thus their Winuwuk Café and art gallery was opened in Actually, Winuwuk stands for “Will ist neu und Weg unserer Kunst”, which can roughly be translated as “Will means new and the way to our art”. The current owners have added a second interpretation: “Weg Im Norden Und Wunder Und Kunst ” (Way in the North and wonder and art). Having arrived at the café which is situated at the edge of town on a slope next to the forest, one immediately notices the “arty” structure standing out of the rest of the houses. Once seated in the inside our eyes went back and forth, examining the interesting details. Original chairs, a cosy fireplace in the middle, red-brownish rounded supporting pillars, curved walls and pivot posts with no straight angle whatsoever. We felt a bit like being part of the set of “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”. For those who like that expressionist silent movie, we think the Winuwuk Café is a must-see if you’re staying anywhere near Bad Harzburg. Concerning the drink and the snack, Winuwuk offers a modest menu: several kinds of tea and coffee, homemade Kuchen (cake), a soup or two, bread or toast with meat or cheese and about five simple main dishes. Prices are a little above average but we don’t think they’re too high. The café is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Rest of the week it opens from half past eleven in the morning until six in the afternoon, kitchen closing at pm. Be aware there’s no possibility to pay with card, cash money only. Expressionism at the Winuwuk has not been limited to the building and the interior itself. Cups, plates and dishes are also matching as a kind of expressionist design-ware. Because it’s situated at a slope you’ll get a very nice views towards the north at the window, or during summer from the terrace on the backside of the Café. Don’t forget to visit the “Sonnenhof” in the garden. In matching architecture this shop in the backyard offers arts and crafts for sale. We had a coffee, beer and a soup, all served by friendly waitress and really enjoyed the interior and atmosphere of the café. Will definitely revisit the Winuwuk if ever around again."
