"We stayed in Melk for two nights in October in order to visit the Stift. Hotel zur Post is a family run, very friendly hotel. We had an excellent room overlooking the main square with a lovely view of the Stift. The room was clean, very comfortable, and breakfast was excellent. We had Dinner in the hotel's restaurant one night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent cooking, varied menu, great service, good range of wines, lovely atmosphere. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay."

Nice stuff. First part of restaurant is more cosy then second part. But second part is good for a Groups. Good wine and food was standard.

Great location for cycling along the Danube. Friendly, helpful staff who work hard to ensure guests have extraordinary care. Clean, spacious rooms with comfortable beds and linens. Hearty breakfast. Front desk staff were exceptional and even provided transfer to train station.

My friend ordered a meal. I didn’t feel well so I only ordered soup. They don’t want that. First my friend had to wait till I finished the soup and than, when I ordered one more soup, it was diluted with water so the tast wasn’t good. Watery. The waiter atmitted that they dilute the soup but didn’t do anything to correct it.

A very friendly hotel in a great location right in the centre of Melk overlooking the Abbey. We stayed here 1 night as part of our Danube cycling tour. The rooms were clean and comfortable, however they were very small and so hot! It was very hard to sleep. The restaurant was great and we enjoyed a very pleasant evening meal in their patio restaurant and breakfast was a good spread.

We just followed our instinct to look for restaurant for our lunch and glad to have made a wise choice. We had beef dishes and pumpkin dumplings to share in the open seating. Although they tend to be pretty heavy, all are very yummy. The waitress is friendly and our order is quick to arrive. It is pleasant to stop over at Zur Post by the relaxing environment after visiting the Melk abbey.

Being on the strip of Melk Tourism .... you should expect at least a decent meal and normal food. and this is what you get. it was a full reservation day and we had to dine in. normal, yet noisy from the bar and they were not shy to joke and make noises... even if there were 6 full tables from 8 .....so they had to realize...the food was good, decently as portions and well decorated. the schnitzel was good and the salad as well so it is worth a stop.

"Gasthofs all seem to have the same menu and there are only so many schnitsels you can eat, so we were all looking forward to eating here because of the great reviews. Koloman is going for the chic trendy look, but this doesn't really work...as it's clientel are neither chic nor trendy, it is a tourist burger joint. It is busy one though as many of the tables were reserved. We were shown to table which was much lower than the chair and people were having to eat dinner from their lap, it was also uncomfortably hot and people on neighboring tables were smoking which my wife hates, so we asked if we could eat inside as the other tables were busy or booked. This was so inconvenient for the waiter his sighs were embarrassing. In the end we were offered the table that was previously occupied by some staff. It was fine once we wiped away all the cigarette ash. The burgers are quite pricey for Austria and fries, sauce, onion rings are all extra. Not terrible, but not cheap for what you get. The burgers are pretty good, though not in my top 20. Good quality meat but a bit overcooked and dry, which may be why they arrived just a few minutes after ordering were they cooked before we ordered? We ordered cocktails, I love a margherita but you can't order a normal one here, you have to have a banana or kiwi one which is not cool, there didn't seem to be much booze in it either. We were out the door barely half an hour after arriving, we didn't really enjoy the ambience of the restaurant, the surly waiter, the cigarette smoke, or the beating sun which shooed us away before we could look at the desert menu. The burger was decent, and certainly better than burger chain fodder. Mostly, this place isn't half as cool as it thinks it is."

"I travelled from one country to another by plane - from Denmark to Austria. I travelled from one city to another by train - from Vienna to Krems an der Donau. I travelled from one small town to another by boat - from Stein to Melk. I travelled from the riverbank to the Melk Abbey on my two tired feet. All because I had read about the special patented Kolomanitorte developed and served in Stiftsrestaurant Melk. Yes, I am a cake afficionado who travels partly according to the pastries and other sweets the destinations offer. So I was happy when I finally reached Stiftsrestaurant Melk and saw photos of the cake of my Austrian dreams on every table of the restaurant. When the waiter came I could tell him right away that I was ready to order: "I would like to have the Kolomanitorte and a cup of coffee." "Oh, the torte is sold out," he replied calmly as if it could be of no importance. "Seriously?!" Well, yes, seriously! There was no Kolomanitorte with elderberry jam! I was about to panic; my travels had been for nothing! I felt betrayed and gravely dissapointed. The waiter was still totally calm and suggested I tried - what I think was called - the Benediktinertorte instead. I know myself well enough to know that a piece of cake can soothe my nerves, and this cake certainly did. It was delicious and all was well. Thanks to the calm waiter, the tasty walnutty Benedictine cake and the glorious blue sky above the spectacular abbey. Scandal avoided. Lovely experience taken in."
