"The problem in Mannheim is a lack of any kind of good cafes and restaurants. By international standards Kleines Cafe would have a 3/5 score, but I gave it a 4/5 compared to the rest of Mannheim. It is charming with a chic, yet neighborhood feel.Staff: Hit and miss. If you're lucky you get really great and friendly service. I have been lucky very often, but I am also chatty. But sometimes it is unimpressive and was once even incredibly rude (in July 2017)Cakes: A nice selection. The poppy seed/pear cake is very nice. Carrot cake is a HUGE disappointment. Teas: Great selection of loose leaf teas. Pots are too small. Fancy presentation for what is essentially a small cup of tea. And therefore the teas are extremely overpriced. 4,20 for a small cup of tea is expensive. A tea in New York, London, Sydney or Hong Kong wouldn't cost that much. Food: I had my first meal there this week. It was ok. Presentation and quality was about the same as an average home cook. Not what I expect from a chic cafe or bistro. The menu could be improved and some more options are needed. Overall: Typically "Yuppie" spot in a city that doesn't have many of them, so it stands out and is overpriced, albeit could be executed better. I like yuppie spots, so I keep going back. I found a tea and a cake I like, so it works for me. And I am very happy when the staff I like are working on that day."

Mannheim, known for its grid layout and Baroque palace, offers hearty German cuisine. Try "Sauerbraten" (pot roast) and "Spätzle" (noodles) for a true local flavor.
