what an amazing fund today. fabulous French restaurant. wonderful food and first class service. the waitress was so efficient and friendly. if we were to stay longer, we would have returned for more. excellent value, divine food. well done. thanks for making our Monday.

we were recommended this restaurant by our local hosts and although we had a good meal, the menu was quite limited and the place is missing in the atmosphere. in the winter it would feel much more comfortable, as it is very small and traditionally decorated, but on a hot summer day it seemed quite dark. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at La Madeleine de Proust, including an excellent bottle of wine from the Loire Valley. The restaurant was within easy walking distance from our hotel, Hostellerie-Chateau-Chaumont, Like many restaurants in France, it is quite small, so it...is best to make reservations in advance.

I came here nearly 16 years ago when this was a little creperie and tried again a few years ago. It was February so I was out of luck.The restaurant was pretty booked this summer too so if you want to have lunch or dinner there, stop by when you first get into town and make a reso.MP is not cheap but totally an inventive and attentive experience - not too much butter and sauce which is a nice change after a few days in France!Enjoy!

We had an amazing meal for two on the last night of our holiday in Chaumont. We had to book in advance because it's always full and that's hardly a surprise with menus for most tastes and wallets. We had aperitif and 3 fabulous courses with a bottle of wine bottled less than 15 minutes walk away all for €77. The service was excellent and friendly and if you can't or won't speak French they do have an English version. I was surprised at how expensive this restaturant was over $30.00 for lunch for 1 person. I had an appetizer (5 large shrimp in a curry sauce). It was very good but not worth the priceof almost $15.00 I also had a small carafe of local white wine, a coffee and a dessert. Seems a bit much for what it was. The waitress was somewhat friendly but no more than what would be acceptable politeness. I would not recommend this place unless you want to spend a LOT of money, and certainly do not go on your own, as no one really cares whether you are there or not. LOL

From the very warm welcome, the log-fire in the insert and the quality of food this was a very enjoyable experience and my over-all "4" grade is really a "4+". We chose different menus: my friend, more gastronomically, chose the menu at 28€ and took gambas in a light curry and whisky sauce, followed by grilled char (omble de chevalier) which I haven't seen on a menu for many years. The menu at 21€ offered a rich celery soup followed by hake in tarragon sauce. All of this was quite excellent. My friend finished off with three scoops of ice-cream and I with an apple tart concoction; the deserts were slightly less interesting than the previous courses. We have been visiting La Madeleine de Proust for lunch for a number of years now, on our annual pilgimage to see the Garden Festival at Chaumont. This year we were surprised to find new decor and new proprietaires... and a very new menu hence...another review. My wife started with perfectly cooked scallops in a sweet chestnut sauce. We both had dorade (sea bream) served on a bed of leeks. We were a little worried that it might be a bit bland, but it was absolutely delicious, the fish cooked to perfection and the finely shredded leeks were served in a lovely veloute sauce.
