"The restaurant is associated with the hotel but has the feel of an independent restaurant. This is especially so if you eat outside in the summer since the hotel is fronted by a very lovely enclosed courtyard and the restaurant is in the courtyard. The restaurant is a favourite of both locals and holidaymakers and was a favourite of Keith Floyd when he lived in the area. We use it regularly for lunch when we visit Avignon when we stay in the area for about four months every year and have done so for at least the last 10 years. There is usually a business menu priced at around 35 euros and a good wine list that includes some of the best local wines. The style is French fine dining. Our last lunch for two including wine was 125 euros. Excellent! Reservation recommended."

The restaurant in the hotel of Europe is great. Bravo to the chief and Marie for the service.

A nice place, very nice staff, classic chic frame. I like to have a drink at the bar lounge where on the terrace in the summer.

Hotel located in a beautiful old building in the heart of Avignon. Average hallway sound. Room with no view, overlooking a tiny inner courtyard. Average breakfast.

Food, service and setting. Cannot fault this restaurant. Head Chef a local boy with loads of talent. Creative without being ostentatious. By far the best meal in France we'd had and we ate out every night from low key to Michelin. View menu

I spent 20 years of my life in front of this beautiful hotel. My husband was the director of the Avignon festival. Our apartment was in Crillon Square. Wonderful dinners between friends and artists. Starry sky, happiness. The director of this establishment was extremely kind and cultivated. Going back is reviving the dreams of these blessed summers. You can't be disappointed.

Over 10 years, there hasn't been significant changes and that's good!Great dinner in their courtyard that makes you think the rest of the world went away. Swordfish 1st course as an appetizer was very interesting and new. Turbo prepared just right and steak were hits. Mashed (puréed) potatoes made me think of bland baby food. Wine selection is probably the best (for me) in the world because of chatnuf d pape white wine ( you can't get it in the states).

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at La Vielle Fontaine. Very good food, with fresh, flavorful ingredients, skillfully prepared and creatively presented. Elegant setting; the dining room is beautifully appointed, quiet and sophisticated, but not stuffy. Unlike an earlier poster, we found the service to be very polished and the surprisingly young staff to be well-trained, knowledgeable about the food and wine, and extremely courteous (in multiple languages, no less). Pricey, but well worth it for such a fine dining experience. View menu

A beautiful elegant dining room, perfectly in keeping with the style of the hotel. Some amazing food options but we opted for the shorter 3 course menu. The food was beautifully presented and flavours varied between good and great. Service was attentive but the staff were young and perhaps a little inexperienced. Given the lack of available options in Avignon in early Jan, we felt very lucky to have enjoyed a delicious meal. Can't comment on its competition in Avignon but it compared favourably to many of the meals we had in other towns over the period.

I just want to know why hotel staff hang out in the street before noon, especially in front of the Maharajah Palace restaurant located in the back, smoking bulkheads, sitting on the floor... The owner of this restaurant never dared to reproach them, displays a good, affable smile when asked why, and tells you that 'it's not serious'. It's okay, for sure, except for the image of the hotel that gives the impression of having no space where to put at ease its own staff and make some guests miss at the restaurant: it's barely if you can cross the entrance with this band of trainaillars if 'distinguished'! As for the hotel, having seen this several times, I don't even want to put my feet there!
