"One of our last nights in Paris in July, we headed to the Rue Mouffetard for dinner. Years ago, I lived in the Gobelins district, and had found eateries on the Rue du Pots de Fers a hit and miss prospect, but we have located and fallen in love with a restraurant on Mouffetard which is, sadly, now out of business. (R.I.P. Jardin d'Ivy) La vieille tour filled in for us, mainly because they offered magret du canard at a reasonable price. We were welcomed to tables on the street just as a saxophone player took up residence on the corner. Our first courses came quickly and were lovely. There is no place better than Paris to slurp down onion soup. The duck came in not too long a time, and even my finicky son ate his with relish. My husband scraped his plate clean, and wrote "manifique" in what little sauce remained on the surface.Overall, the food was good, but not great. I remember what truly great magret du canard looks and tastes like and, while this wasn't it, it also wasn't bad. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were reasonable, and the taste was nice. Just not great. The best part was sitting at a table outdoors on a gorgeous night in Paris with the two people I love best in the world, listening to the busquer and enjoying the people around us, all chattering in one of at least six languages I could identify. The wait staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming, and the wine makes everything better.I hope they're there next time I visit Paris."
