"The hotel has changed hands recently, and the new 'management ' are working all hours to restore this wonderful old building into a good quality hotel. Yes, it is 'tatty round the edges ', but the staff are wonderful and trying very hard to sort out all the 'niggles ' immediately they are informed. The food is always freshly cooked and hot, breakfast to order and not buffet style. Rooms are clean, superb ensuites, and some second floor 'twin ' rooms have a balcony with wide ranging views out to sea. The hotel represents good value for money. on the edge of Dartmoor and close to hiking trails and attractions. It is not 'disabled friendly ' yet, but necessary alterations are an integral part of the development plan and investment. I wish them every success and will stay here again. Rooms: Older building, high ceilings and comfortable. Not the best decor, but they are working on it! Most importantly, they are clean, tidy and ensuites good."

Possibly worst hotel room I've ever stayed in. Wall paper peeling, black mold in shower, bathroom door didn't close, fan in bathroom of adjacent room so loud I was woken at 06.15. Owners nice Rooms: 1 Service: 4 Location: 4 Hotel highlights: Great view

The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The service is exemplary, welcoming and friendly. The location on the edge of Dartmoor is still only 10-15 minutes from the centre of Plymouth. If you are lucky enough to have a room with a balcony, the view to Plymouth Sound is superb. Rooms: 3 Service: 4 Location: 4 Hotel highlights: Great value View menu

I absolutely love the location of this bar and hotel, which offers stunning views of the moors and Plymouth Sound. I've been coming here for years, often on horseback (though I'm not sure if you can still ride or tie up your horse here, as that was several years ago). Recently, I attended a wedding reception at this venue, and everything was perfect. The food was outstanding—hats off to the chef! I’d rate the service a 4 out of 5.

Stopped at the moorlands on sunday the 17th and was very impressed by the new owners , meet and greet check in was quick, simple and pleasent with the member of staff assisting me to my room with my bags. The room was spacipus and clean with a balcony over looking plymouth sound and a well maintainrd ensuite. Evening meal menu had a varied selection but can highly recommend one of there home made curry's as the lamb madras was excellent, breakfast was also plentiful and of again a very high standard served with a smile. All in all this is a very nice place to stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

I stayed here for one night and found the staff to be exceptional—very friendly and welcoming. The location is convenient, and the views are impressive. However, the rooms are in need of renovations; the fittings are outdated, the floorboards are creaky, and there are noisy bathroom fans that won't turn off. Additionally, the bedside tables were not functional. While the room was generally clean, I would have liked to use the balcony, but the guests in the room next door were using it as a smoking area despite the signs prohibiting it. The walls are quite thin, so I could hear the smoker snoring and coughing. The restaurant was clean but felt a bit worn, though the food was good. I only paid... View menu

I arrived late Saturday night after a wedding to find we had messed up on the booking and had accidentally booked the night before. They had room tho and it was all quickly and painlessly sorted. Thanks again for that. The service was grate and very personal and the breakfast well done. Heads up though. this isn't some chain, they don't have a tone of staff. its just the 2 of them and they work very hard. yeah, not everything is perfect, its little worn down, but for the price it's amazing and you can tell the building is well loved and looked after. if it's summer id strongly recommend bringing a fan with you, as they don't have aircon. Rooms: well appointed, lots of furniture. a little low...

"Christmas Party with Theatre group from Ivybridge, 23 of us in total and staff had absolutely no trouble what so ever dealing with such a large group. From moment walked in the door staff were friendly and welcoming both the girls on the bar serving and the other staff attending to other clients. everyone friendly, smiling and saying 'hello, welcome ' etc. When entire party had gathered and mingled for a bit in the bar area we were lead to private upstairs function room and met simple but nicely decorated Christmas table with crackers. Meal was booked for 7.30pm and bang on 7.30pm the Starters came up the stairs and were served. I had the Baked Goats Cheese Fresh Fig Pine Nuts Crostini Toast Starter. Very generous portion of Goats cheese, warm and easily spreadable on the Crostini Toast and plenty left to eat along with the side salad. Toast was perhaps a little tough/over done but still a very enjoyable Starter. Tables quickly cleared after everyone had finished starters as well as clearing up some of mess from crackers and games we had bung. Traditional Roast Devon Turkey Festive Garnish Roast Gravy for mains. Again a very nice meal and very generous portions of food. plenty of turkey and veg pots of two to share amongst our selves but was more than enough for everyone. Cheese and Biscuits desserts. Nice sizes of the 3 traditional Cheeses (Cheddar, Brie and Stilton but think general consensus amongst myself and others was could of done with more biscuits as only 3 wasn 't enough for the cheese sizes, though its better to have more cheese and less biscuit than other way around. Tea, Coffee and Mince pies offered and served to finish off After meal there was a disco downstairs for us for choose who wished to partake but those who didn 't could still stay upstairs and chat so perfect for everyone and didn 't have to worry about belongings on dance floor as safe in private room. All in all the perfect venue for the perfect Christmas party. God bless us, everyone :"
