"Having read other recent reviews after I ordered I was worried so I pleasantly surprised when it arrived very promptly. The Haddock was cooked beautifully and the chips which were not as crispy as I prefer were still perfectly acceptable. I generally use a well known chip shop on the Norwich Road, buy would have no problem purchasing from Neptunes. Not the best chip shop in Ipswich but perfectly decent food."

Although a little bit annoyed that we had ordered earlier in the day for 745 and it was nearly 30mins late the food was exceptional. One of the best fish n chips we have had

Good food, cooked great. restaurant even called me to tell me part of my order wasn't possible and arranged different items that I was more than happy with as replacements. overall a happy customer.

I enjoyed the chips, but unfortunately, I had to leave my piece of "cod" uneaten. In my 41 years of life, I have never walked away from a piece of fish before. It lacked flavor, was dry in some spots, slimy in others, and had an unusual texture. It was disappointing. View menu

The portion size of the large chips was decent, but everything was cold, including the chips in the middle of the pile. The fried chicken was very dry and while the serving size was decent, it was not very enjoyable. Despite the good reviews from others, I don't think I will be ordering from this restaurant again.

Do not recommend dining at this restaurant. Our order was incorrect and we were overcharged. The atmosphere was unpleasant and it felt like we were not welcome. The staff were arguing and the boss was yelling at a young employee in front of us. The food was terrible, with soggy fish and chips, cold mushy peas and curry sauce that seemed to have just been quickly microwaved.

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
