"We had an amazing dinner at No97! As it was a Saturday evening it was very busy and our table was for outside. As it had been raining we were unsure whether to stay in case we got wet. Hulio the gentleman who was looking after us was very kind and said it was up to us but there was a heater and canopy so the rain would not affect us. So so glad we stayed! Hulio and his team were so nice and hospitable and looked after us so well. The dinner was a set menu and everything was delicious! My mum who is hard to please when eating out said this was one of the best meals out she has had so that's saying something! From the service to the divine food it was such a lovely evening! We were so lucky as the rain had stopped too! Hulio was so friendly and a pleasure to converse with, my children who both speak Spanish had a nice chat with him too! We will definitely be returning soon! Thank you to all the staff for making our evening so lovely!"

The team were amazing and made us feel very welcome, the food was outstanding. They have a new manager, he was great, he took time to talk to us. The food was modern but with some great twists. I would highly recommend 97.

Ate here with 7 members of my family today. What a lovely experience! Friendly professional staff, amazing food and superb adaptation for the one gluten intolerant member of our group. I wish I was local and could come back asap! View menu

We had a sublime meal here for our anniversary last night and the restaurant added extra touches for the occasion, from a handwritten card to a beautifully personalised dessert plate. All dishes were absolutely delicious, creative, seasonal and executed with such finesse. Great to see a female chef in the kitchen too! We’re lucky to live around the corner and will be back regularly!

The food is excellent here, but the really knowledgeable staff made this special introducing each dish and making each course exemplary that is up until recently. Had dinner last night and the waiting staff were average at best, hanging around the pass, little time for customers, and generally back on the average scale. The food is here around the best in the area, and the staff made the difference. But no more. Will be looking for other contenders for top spot now which is a shame as was a loyal customer.

Despite leaving a message and emailing no one responded to me concerning my intolerances which I found worrying. On arrival they had noted one intolerance but not the second. However they advised me what I could eat which was one starter, mains with exceptions and one dessert. The Amuse Bose made especially for me and starter were both tasty. The roast beef was tender but we all had two very small slices and the pork was dry. My husband thought the roast potatoes were soggy. The service was mediocre. Overall we’d rather spend a little bit more on The French Table which is exemplary. However, in the week I have had a good lunch here. View menu

My business colleague choose this restaurant for a catch up close to his house I stayed locally and the restaurant was a 5 minute walk from by loggings Situated on bustling road the restaurant was outstanding! Bright and funky interior, I was seated quickly and had a perfect view of the interior bar and open kitchen I quaffed a couple of drinks whilst awaiting and when Andy arrived we ordered a bottle of Gavi and selected our fare I opted for crispy pork belly and stuffed Rabbit terrine and both finished with a wonderful cheese board and a port ! All was exceptional and a wonderful evening was enjoyed by all I will definitely return

We booked a table for dinner online and checked by phone that we were in the restaurant and not downstairs. We arrived and were told that our table would be ready in about 10 minutes so we were shown downstairs to wait. Apart from being served drinks but had to remind someone about the water we had asked for we were ignored. About 15 minutes after we were sent downstairs we asked a waitress when our table would be ready and again were told 10 minutes. We waited another 15/20 minutes we got up and left. There was no sign of a free table upstairs or of one becoming available. During the time we were downstairs apart from our drinks order we were totally ignored.

42 Richmond Rd, Kingston Upon Thames, United Kingdom, Kingston upon Thames

"Obon: a petit Japanese udon restaurant that supplies a sense of Japan that cannot be found anywhere else in the whole of the Uk. (5 stars) Location: Obon is located close to the heart of Kingston but the road it’s on is considerably quieter. You must make sure to have a basic knowledge of Kingston in order to find an area to park and to also make sure you leave yourself enough time, taking the unpredictability of the traffic into acount. Even on a week day there can be traffic jams which can put a halt to your plans and due to the small amount of customers Obon can take its important that you not only book but make sure that you arrive at the agreed booking time. With this being said the staff are all lovely so if you are running late, a quick call is all that is required to just give Obon a chance to understand your position. The food: The array of exquisitely prepared sashimi will be sure to create the sensation that you are in a top Japanese restaurant in japan and the flavour of the fish does not fail to match expectations, which will be very high after just one glance at your meal. The fish is delicately seasoned and practically melts on your tongue, this causes a lovely sensation and is genuinely the finest sushi I have tasted in the uk and even matches a lot of the top restaurants in japan. On top of just the traditional types of sushi, which to many is maki rolls Obon also offers many other delicious options such as soft shell crab and even Unagi don, which I must highly recommend due to it consistently being the highlight of my meal. For those of you that were interested in the quality of the basic Japanese dishes such as miso soup or edamame they do not fail to leave you in grand anticipation for what is to come for they are, simply speaking, incredibly good. The miso, in my opinion, is truly remarkable and creates a lasting feeling of warmth throughout your entire body, on top of that it is far superior to other miso’s that I have tasted in all other areas of the world. Overall the quality of the food is something you would expect from a world famous Michelin star restaurant and if you want Japanese food it’s the only place I can recommend. The Restaurant: The restaurant itself is small but authentic in nature and because it only has a enough tables to host around 20 people at the most, the service is exceptionally good and your food is always out quickly so you will not be left hungry for very long. The staff are kind and friendly. And it’s always an enjoyable experience being waves goodbye as you leave the restaurant. You’re also able to watch as they prepare the food, which for some could be entertaining. There are Japanese photos scattered around the room and this further creates an authentic feel. The atmosphere is not lively but it is a restaurant and not a bar so is an ideal location if you are wanting high quality food. With this being said it is still a great place to go with friends and I consistently am able to have a great time no matter the occasion. Price: Obviously, the price of the food is always an important topic to come to and despite the cost of the sushi being slightly higher than you may expect from a small restaurant in Kingston, I would have to say that for the quality of the food it is ultimately a bargain. For three people, you would be spending around £100 so it isn’t cheap but you can go for cheaper types of food such as udon, which is still amazing quality and won’t set you back as much money. Overall: Obon is still my favourite restaurant in the whole of the Uk and is perfect for a special occasion but it isn’t the sort of place you’d go for a casual night out. The food is beyond incredible and thus they can cater for both children and adults by meeting every bodies needs. For anybody that enjoys sushi, I would urge you to give it a go, you won’t regret it"
