"I booked an eight course taster menu fine dining experience at Pale Hall for my wife 's birthday treat, which turned out to be a hugely disappointing non event. I made our booking for two, five weeks in advance of valentines day, which seemed to be the perfect romantic choice, and no mention of restrictions to menus or of their being a set menu for Valentines day was ever mentioned, until the actual day itself, despite having discussed our requirements to five separate members of staff over a five week period. I discussed our requirements with Luke the day before we were due to dine at Pale Hall, and was very surprised to establish that we had been allocated a table in the family dining area, Venetian room, and not the Henry Robertson Dining Room, despite the website clearly stating that the taster menus are served in the latter. On V day itself, I called to ensure all was to order, only to be told by Jan that the hotel was not serving the eight course taster menu. I shared this update with my wife who was both surprised and disappointed that such an establishment could be run so randomly. I called Jan back and after two more phone calls, she conceded that they would provide us with the eight course taster menu. I subsequently discussed my overall concerns with the manager Debbie, who confirmed that the Hotel was only serving a set five course taster menu for V day. I complained that this was never made clear from the time of our original booking to the actual day itself, despite having spoken to five members of staff about our dining requirements. Debbie offered us a free bottle of champagne as a gesture of good will, and after my protests, re instated our booking to the Henry Robertson Dining Room. When I asked if the V day menu was the same price and selection as the sample menus on line, Debbie confirmed that it was, despite the fact that two selection options had been removed. I then asked if the wine taster flight was the same price as the sample menus on the web site, and she confirmed that they were. She then emailed me a copy of the V day five course taster menu, which revealed that the wine flight price had been hiked from 60.00 to 95.00 despite there being no changes to the wines provided. I called Debbie again to express my disapproval and shock at being constantly misled by her and her staff. She responded by assuring me that we would be charged the original price of 60.00 per person per head, which caused even greater concern, when considering that all other diners ordering the wine flight would be made to pay the inflated themed rate of 95.00. Having been deceived and misled by both staff and management throughout, we were left with no other choice than to cancel our booking, just two and a half hours before we we due to celebrate my wife 's birthday, with a fine dining experience. What we actually were offered at the 11th hour, was a diluted themed menu, with no choice options, plus a wine flight package that had been inflated by a whopping 60%. Suffice to say, we will never be dining nor staying at this shoddily run establishment again."
All prices are estimates on menu.
