"As we’d read good things about the place on here, and needed a bit of a pick-me-up due to having a few drinks the night before, we decided to head there for breakfast. View is lovely, and the cafe interior is really nice. The place was busy when we arrived and there were only two empty tables, so we cleared one for ourselves and sat down. We ordered cooked breakfasts and hot drinks. We had about a 30 minute wait before anything arrived at our table. Usually I’d expect the drinks to arrive first, especially if there’s a bit of a wait for the food, but the drinks arrived with/slightly after the food. This did mean we were sat with nothing for half an hour, with a bit of a thirst on. The breakfasts were ok. The bacon and black pudding were nice, beans and tomato just as you’d expect (although you get a slice of tomato, rather than a whole one, which seems a bit tight). The sausages, however, were the cheapest, nastiest sausages I have ever had the misfortune to eat, and I’m surprised they’ve not addressed this, as it’s been mentioned in reviews before. I wasn’t expecting locally produced or butcher’s sausages, but these were just horrid. The mushrooms had seen better days, and those and the hash brown and fried egg just tasted of old cooking oil. Kids had toasties and chunky chips which looked quite nice. Cheese in the toasties was also a bit cheap-tasting but the kids didn’t mind that! Service was fine, staff seemed polite enough. We spent just under £50 for two adults and two kids, which was a lot considering the cheapness of the ingredients. I wouldn’t personally return."

We had two delicious curries with chips while seated by the window overlooking the river. We definitely plan on visiting again in the near future.

Been here 3 times now the fish finger sandwich and chips is brilliant. Excellent location, very clean, staff really helpful and yes it’s cash only, to which I had none however, I could bank transfer which wasn’t a problem. Will be a regular from now on

I can't believe I didn't know about this amazing cafe on the river Tees right in my neighborhood! Everything was perfect - the service was fantastic, the staff were so friendly and even gave treats to my dog. I will definitely be returning soon. 10 out of 10! View menu

This cafe is amazing , I have been taking my elderly mam here for the last few months , today my elderly neighbour joined us I had told her the food is amazing , she was very impressed and said she will definatly return . Cafe is spotless , staff are friendly and helpful and the food is gorgeous . It was nearly closing time , but staff never rushed us and chatted as they tidied up , one girl put the hoover on and I presume it was the owner asked her to turn it off as we were still finishing up , genuinly impressed . If you want homemade food , a lovely view and staff who go that one step beyond then this is the cafe to go too .

I visited this restaurant with my family on September 1st. We have three young children, two who are 2 years old and one who is 4. The staff behind the counter were amazing, very kind and friendly to all of us, even interacting with the kids. However, the woman working in the kitchen came out a few times to scold our kids for being too loud and excited about the ducks. The last time she came out, she told me that the kids were making too much noise because I was tickling them and they were laughing too loudly. I tried to address this with her after our meal, but she hung up on me when I told her to show some respect for her customers and their children. It's a shame because we used to come h...

"Visited this weekend for a family celebration and had an unremarkable experience. Decor of establishment was rather nice. Admittedly, we were a large booking of 17 individuals and this can be challenging to manage and organise for such a small establishment. The mature gentleman was rather rude to our host whom asked for an additional chair for the party as we were one short despite finalising numbers as agreed earlier in the afternoon. This is no way an appropriate manner to treat guests and clearly set a bad example for his staff as well as the wrong tone for the evening ahead. Guests were not even properly seated before being hounded for their drinks order despite not being given a drinks menu. Upon asking about cocktails to the waitress whom was pleasant she was unable to give the full selection just the three she knew of the top of her head that were the standard run of the mill selection. To give full credit to her fo honest regarding the diaquiries before we ordered them in. The cocktails (passion fruit martini and cosmopolitan's) ordered were disappointing as they tasted watered down and lacked a bang. Don't understand why one of the passion fruit martinis was brought out in a drinks glass which was rather random. Drinks orders were taken on an ad hoc basis with the waiting staff not taking a full tables order walking away as people attempted to give their drinks order, unintentional maybe? We were rushed to give our starters/mains orders all of which came promptly and all guests received the correct order. The waiting staff shouted out food orders from the top of the table to identify who's order was who's. The pasta based dishes were pleasantly enjoyed yet the pizzas and parmesans proved to be somewhat vanilla. Not all guests had properly finished eating their meals before the gentlemen asked if he could remove plates before receiving an answer from the full table resulting in some guests to not finish their meals. We were not offered a deserts menu once they removed dishes from the table. We had second hand embarrassment for an additional family party whom were having a celebration meal at the restaurant. The party had started to get settled at the table putting out their balloons etc when the mature gent stormed over barking at them to move as he shoved table and chairs across the restaurant. This clearly made them feel uncomfortable as was noticed and commented by the service users of the restaurant. The waiting staff plonked the celebration cakes on the table one of which didn't even go to the correct individual. NO SPECIAL MEMORY OR MAGICAL MOMENT TO BE HAD FOR A 18TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. It would have been nice if they had asked before bringing it out as some of our party partially missed out on the occasion. The bill was given to the wrong individual instead of the host which allowed for everyone to see the bill when this was an private affair. To be perfectly honest we visited a few months earlier and had a disappointing experience but with better service. Linthorpe Road is bursting with alternative, superior, independent eateries that I would highly recommend instead."
