"I really do love the Schloss Arkaden mall in Braunschweig, with its beautiful castle-like façade and stylish modern interior, and Play-Off is a shining star amidst the restaurants and eateries on offer in the shopping centre. I popped along with my girlfriend in the festive season of 2014 and we almost didn't go in (well, not really 'go in', because the restaurant is plopped quite seamlessly into one of the upper floors) because every single table was taken. This was at 10am in the morning! I've never seen a breakfast eatery so heaving at such a time. Thus, we decided it must be good, and stuck around to grab a table. Once seated at a table which had a glass panel in the middle beneath which was a compartment holding American memorabilia and paraphernalia such as baseball caps and sports almanacs, we were each given a card and a pen. On the card was a list of the food items you can have on your plate for breakfast. Just tick the items you want, and that's it! Your waitress will pick the cards back up, ask you what you'd like to drink, and minutes later you'll have your breakfast in front of you. The options are just what you'd expect: eggs (sunny side up, scrambled, etc.), sausages (delicious ones from Nürnberg), tomatoes, mushrooms, cute little pancakes, and so on. The €8 breakfast gets you unlimited plates — get as many combinations as you fancy! Just ask for a fresh ordering card whenever a waitress passes by. The €10 breakfast gets you that, plus unlimited cups of coffee from a more-than-adequate range, including cappuccino, mocha, hot chocolate (marshmallows!), and so on. Brilliant accompaniment for the breakfast! Then there's the breakfast buffet bar, which took me pleasantly by surprise, and was stocked up with different kinds of bread, spreads and relishes like Nutella and maple syrup, sandwich fillings including various cheeses and salamis, and even cereal and milk dispensers! The buffet bar really completed the experience, and the waitresses walking around with 'jugs of joe' filling people's coffee cups whilst live broadcasts and reruns of sporting events aired on screens around the restaurant really made for that extra-special authentic American atmosphere!"

Food was well cooked and portion sizes were large. They did a menu in English which was useful and saved significant time translating the german one! Prices were reasonable. Service was quick and friendly.

The play-off is a restaurant on the top floor of the Schloss shopping mall. Still, it's seating area is alright, with most seats having enough space to look across the mall or through windows. It's also a sports bar, so there's always something going on on the screens. We've been there for breakfast which was nice: it opens early, all warm food is served fresh, there's unlimited coffee (unfortunately no juice), and they have a set of cold cuts on a buffet. You get this for a fair price and the staff is relatively quick and friendly, even when it's full (which is common especially on Saturdays). On the downside, it really only covers the basics, so don't expect a big variety. "Yesterday, I was happy to eat here on the opening day. an authentic Japanese restaurant. many people I would think: now, still load a sushi, we didn't feel 20 brownish? irrtum! sushi is looking for her on the menu of forgiveness. here they can eat hot dishes from the japan all day. from donburi to various sprinkling to delicious desserts. at the beginning we have edamame (a delicious bean snack to the evening beer, traditional Japanese) and since the opening was still a glass champagne. my cucumber should enjoy the wakame udon (the thickest Japanese noodles with Dashi soup, fried tempura and wakame (Japanese alga.) I ordered a delicious teishoku dish. a delicious combination of a main dish and several supplements, rice and fresh mix. to the supplements there was a delicious Japanese carving with a spicy sauce and an salad. on the map you will also find a Japanese beer, whisky, conjak, tees and sake. but I had chosen a Japanese refreshment drink. not too sweet and refreshing. the personal was nice, friendly and courteous. authentic japanese. but they are all (if the time is) to have for a small stiel. the kitchen is occupied by an experienced Japanese cook. they are probably not found anywhere else in Lower Saxony. I could only taste many dishes in london, japan or düsseldorf. I hope to eat here with the time through the whole card. I can only say: itadakimasu!"
