"Without wishing to be unkind (hence selection of poor rather than terrible , it is important to balance the other reviews of this pub to save other families the experience we have just had. Based wholly on tripadvisor recommendations this pub was chosen for a family get together and a booking made for Sunday. Maybe they should have said that they don 't open open a Sunday, who knows we were the only people there and the pub closed immediately after we left it. Definitely they should have said that they can 't provide the meals menu on a Sunday, and we would have gone elsewhere. We were clearly expected only to opt for a Sunday roast meal, so they were thrown by a request for alternatives. Four of us went with the roast, possibly due to the uncomfortable feeling that this was the expected only choice, and picked the beef after an assurance that it was medium rare (one of our party asked for advice on this, making it clear that if the beef was well done we would choose the pork instead not a problem if an accurate reply had been given . The roast when it came was predominantly grey: mountains of grey overcooked veg, dry and getting cold, with no form of sauce or seasoning; thin gravy and, worst, small portions of tough grey overcooked beef. The two others of our party who had asked for a ploughmans out of politeness, on the basis that clearly no other cooking was planned so hopefully this would not be too difficult, received a sad plate of unwashed salad, unripe tomato, elderly pickled shallots, tough celery and slightly sweaty cheese. One diner asked for no black pudding or pork pie and was awarded a huge slab of ham instead hardly a meat free plate. No bread was provided and when requested it was 6 triangles of white sliced and already heavily slathered with a spread that was admitted to be marg when challenged a request for bread with no spread prompted the reply that all the other bread was in the freezer. In desperation we asked for biscuits or crackers but the six crackers provided between two were soft and musty and clearly well past their expiry date. This was not an enjoyable occasion. Although the beer and other drinks were OK we would absolutely not recommend this as a place to eat. Fortunately we are a family with a sense of humour and will look back on this as our very own Fawlty Towers experience."

My mother-in-law and I had Sunday lunch here recently. The food was good (and big portions! and the owners were very friendly. We're considering having a family party here in a few months time and they were also very helpful with our enquiries about that.

My family and I recently dined at The Queens Head, where we were pleased to encounter kind and helpful staff who were willing to assist my elderly parents who have difficulty walking. The food was delicious and the beer was great too! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Ian and Siobhan have started offering senior lunches on Thursdays, and they are a great value for the money. As the new owners, they are trying out new things and their initiative deserves support. The meal we had was fantastic - it was hot, well-presented, and the portions were generous. View menu

What a fab country pub , we knew the pub many years back and heard of change of management . We was welcomed by a caring landlord Paul and his wife Wendy who directed our party (4+child) to a prelaid table , the food was great beer superb compliments to Paul for the quality of his beer lines and Wendy for being a great hostess we wish them well for the future .

Have eaten here a few times now and have never had a meal I have not enjoyed or the people I was with have not enjoyed. Excellent prices in a very relaxed environment. No carpark but can park on the side street. Has high chairs for children and have seen people with dogs in the bar but not the restaurant. Steps to enter and not sure if there is another entrance for disabled. Well worth a visit!

I recently visited the Queens Head for Sunday lunch after a refreshing walk with my dog. The positive aspect was that the restaurant is dog-friendly. However, there were some drawbacks: the meat seemed to be pre-packaged, the roast potatoes were dry and tasted like they were straight from the freezer, and the gravy didn't seem to come from the meat. The Yorkshire pudding was decent. The service was friendly, and I understand that there is new management in place. Being dog-friendly is a major advantage, but they may need to reconsider their food options. View menu

We visited today for a family meal. Weve been coming for around a year and today will be our last time. Worst carvery iv ever had. Hard, tasteless and watery gravy it was all really bland. Hardly given any meat. It really was disgusting. Staff are very unorganised and miserable! The lady who is 'the manager ' was very rude and couldnt be bothered to speak to us when we asked her a question. When we first used to come you couldnt get a table there unless you booked in advance. Now it is cold and empty and no need to book. Its like a complete different place Wont be returning!

Excellent food, reasonably priced. I ate there a number of times as it was so good, and I always got a friendly welcome for me and my little dog. Last time I went was to use the wifi as The Mill Winchcombe Road accommodation I'd booked into turned out to be really terrible and reneged on providing all the services, such as wifi. When the owner of the pub found out I was having such a bad experience with The Mill accommodation, he refunded my meal. Several of the locals offered to buy me drinks. I was very touched by everyone's kindness. Thank you, Matt and all the kind patrons.
