"Problems with staff explaining the menu at point of ordering a meal. We ordered light bites as starters but they came with the main meal. Staff tried to tell us it was our fault as we didn’t specify they were starters! Situation became stressful and conflicting as staff not understanding we didn’t want olives and bread with steak and chips! Came down to an abrupt do you want it or not? We’d already paid over £100 in total so we dithered. This clearly annoyed them as they wanted to get on. After manager arrived money for starters was offered and food taken back. Hate food waster. No apologies but cash flung on table. Maybe some customer service training needed? And an explanation on the menus so that people understand to ask for light byes to be brought first if they are starters. Our experience was spoiled though and sadly we left as soon as possible with a sour taste in our mouths."

We enjoyed relaxing whilst sitting in the sun and watching the world go by. Lovely spot by the river. Enjoyed the drinks and food. A little pricey but it was lovely. The nachos are amazing.

Very poor value for money on the breakfast menu. £12.95 for an all day breakfast with a small pot of lukewarm beans and a small reheated sausage. You would expect more for the price; better to go to one of the river side pubs instead. View menu

This restaurant is situated by the river and offers beautiful views. There is ample seating both indoors and outdoors, and the menu has a wide variety of options from cakes and coffee to filling meals, along with a well-stocked bar. The staff is friendly and creates a pleasant atmosphere.

Riverside Bar is a modern-style bar beautifully located by the river in Ely, directly adjacent to The Maltings and close to the town park. That said, this is not a place for people fancying anything but national and international lagers, like overpriced Staropramen (which I chose). Service was professional and fairly efficient, in good weather it was nice to just relax looking at the river. But the bar itself is nothing truly special.

We had dinner this evening and it didn't start off great. A young girl placed our starters in front of us without asking who ordered what. Then we noticed another young girl with black hair on her phone, not smiling at all. It was very off-putting, especially since it was our first visit here. However, Jessica was lovely and couldn't do enough for us. She was very smiley and chatty. The food was delicious and we will definitely be returning. View menu

Shame as great location but terrible food that tasted microwaved. No flavour. No attention to detail. No table service. Kitchen closed half way through dinner and wasn’t told and weren’t allowed dessert as staff had gone. Focus was clearly more on being a bar as it was loud and full of drunk people. If you’re spending that kind of money on dinner. I don’t expect to queue up at the bar with 20 other people getting jugs of cocktails. Such a shame.

During a visit to Ely, I accidentally left my hat behind, but didn't realize it until we were back home in Nottingham. Thankfully, the staff at the restaurant found my hat and kindly sent it back to me. This level of service was greatly appreciated. In addition to the stellar customer service, we enjoyed a tasty lunch with a wide selection to choose from (we opted for pizzas). The staff were efficient and friendly, and the restaurant was located in a beautiful setting. I highly recommend rbk based on our experience.

"My friend kindly decided to take me another friend along to this her local pub for Xmas lunch on the 12th of December which we were all looking forward too, as we have eaten there before. Unfortunately on entering the pub it seemed quite cold as there was no open fire lite when we asked they told us they had run out of kindling, so we kept out coats on for sometime until we all warmed up. Then when we kindly asked for the menu unfortunately they had none of these as apparently they had ran out of ink for there printer so we then had to look at there written board on the wall, which had fish chips added to it. We were then told by the waitress they had no chips lol but you can have potatoes, unbelievable for a pub to run out of chips. When our meals arrived it was quite disappointing for a Christmas dinner the Yorkshire pud was completely flat, but you did get vegetables served separately which were quite a good variety even though there wasn’t lots. We then went onto order our deserts Once again to add disappointment they didn’t have any crème brûlée so the choice was just Xmas pud with brandy butter or ice cream. So one of my friends could only have ice cream as she’s gluten free who always fancies that on a cold day, me my other friend had the Xmas pud that was served in a pie dish which was not very appealing or professional looking it was served with custard not the brandy butter like the menu said. We did complain as my friends Xmas pud was also lukewarm they did kindly apologise warm it up. Because we complained they did take some of our bill. But I don’t think we will be visiting again anytime soon."
