"My friend kindly decided to take me another friend along to this her local pub for Xmas lunch on the 12th of December which we were all looking forward too, as we have eaten there before. Unfortunately on entering the pub it seemed quite cold as there was no open fire lite when we asked they told us they had run out of kindling, so we kept out coats on for sometime until we all warmed up. Then when we kindly asked for the menu unfortunately they had none of these as apparently they had ran out of ink for there printer so we then had to look at there written board on the wall, which had fish chips added to it. We were then told by the waitress they had no chips lol but you can have potatoes, unbelievable for a pub to run out of chips. When our meals arrived it was quite disappointing for a Christmas dinner the Yorkshire pud was completely flat, but you did get vegetables served separately which were quite a good variety even though there wasn’t lots. We then went onto order our deserts Once again to add disappointment they didn’t have any crème brûlée so the choice was just Xmas pud with brandy butter or ice cream. So one of my friends could only have ice cream as she’s gluten free who always fancies that on a cold day, me my other friend had the Xmas pud that was served in a pie dish which was not very appealing or professional looking it was served with custard not the brandy butter like the menu said. We did complain as my friends Xmas pud was also lukewarm they did kindly apologise warm it up. Because we complained they did take some of our bill. But I don’t think we will be visiting again anytime soon."

Dan and his colleagues were extremely helpful in providing a wonderful buffet lunch for my Fathers 90th birthday. The food and service were excellent and we will certainly be back

We had a lovely roast after a walk around the area. Vegans were easily accommodated and dogs were also welcomed. The staff were really friendly and we really enjoyed our meal. Will definitely be back! View menu

We’ve always loved it, and have now met the current landlord (who’s also the chef) who is lovely, friendly and really shows that he wants you to have a good experience, also serving really delicious home cooked food all within a cosy atmosphere! It’s a real ‘pub’ pub, and we will definitely go back again!

Had the Sunday beef and it was excellent, as usual. No loud background music, just families enjoying time together and great food (plus nice fire, and friendly waitress). All in all, a lovely lunch. Will be returning when we are in the area again. My third visit in 3 years and always consistently (i) good, and (ii) seasonal. View menu

Lovely pub. We arrived early on a Friday evening for a pie and a pint after work. There was only 4 or 5 others in when we arrived. We ordered our food and she said we would have to wait til 6.30pm (1 hr)as the kitchen didnt open til 6pm. The pub quickly filled up and it was a good atmosphere. But at 7pm, we had to chase our food because it still hadnt arrived (1.5hrs later) and we were absolutely starving. Only 1 other table had been served with food. The meal itself was ok, lovely creamy mash, pie was a bit watery, peas overcooked/old.

If you are looking for a really GOOD Sunday Lunch and feeling welcomed but not rushed then I highly recommend Dyke’s End Pub. All the food was freshly made. The plates were lovely and warm on a cold day. The meal was hot! We tried the Pork with deliciously crunchy crackling, roasted potatoes, carrots, parsnips, Yorkshire Pudding, with a separate dish of Broccoli Cabbage entwined. AND with an added feast of Cauliflower Cheese was sublime. The Desserts of Sticky Toffee Pudding which was fantastically fluffy and the melt in your mouth toffee sauce and the refreshing coolness of the ice cream was an excellent combination. I chose Apple and Blackberry Crumble which was so fresh with the addition...

"We were here for a family reunion on Fathers Day. I was going to give 3 stars but having had no response to 2 feedback emails that I sent I have downgraded it. This is the honest feedback that I sent: I’d like to thank you for your help in putting our family meet together. We were pleased with the comfort and ambience of the area where we were sat. We also felt the staff were pleasant and courteous. The meals and the drinks received a mixed feedback. We felt that the vegetables and sauces were very good although a group of 4 were given a small dish of green vegetables to share. Some time later a request for more green vegetables was dealt with but the timing was not good. The fish and chips were commonly well received. I’m afraid that the other aspects of food and drink and most importantly ORGANISATION were poor. When we arrived a waiter came over to take orders of the people that had not placed an advanced order. 2 people at one end of the table asked about the ordered drinks and had to say what they ordered and their order was delivered. I was a little concerned that 2 coffees ordered for the sweets of Peter and Jenny were bought with those 2 drinks but they seemed OK with taking them then and despite all the complaints in this email I don’t want to find fault. At my end of the table the waiter told me that he would come to me with my order but he must have forgotten. Starters were brought for those few that ordered them and a waitress eventually came through to enquire if everyone was OK. I said me and my wife were still waiting for our drinks order. After another 10 minutes someone cam back with the 2 decaf flat whites that we ordered for the end of the meal. Unfortunately the waiter, who was clearly distressed to be told to take them back and bring the correct drinks order, wished to engage with me in a disagreement about where the fault for this lay in front of all my family. This did upset me. Eventually my ale and my wife’s wine was delivered to us – it had taken over 90 minutes to arrive and both the ale was tainted and the red wine not pleasant. In addition the 2 pre ordered drinks were brought for a second time! The poor organisation also meant the meals did not arrive in good time. After nearly 2 hours most people had not had a bite to eat. The meat was very poor. The beef was inedible (very tough) and the poor standards of both meats was fed back to a waitress. By the time that sweets arrived staff was particularly flustered. The sweets came so late that 3 of the people that had ordered ice creams had to leave to catch their train. Again our drinks were forgotten so I asked for the 2 decaf flat whites. These were eventually brought but they were luke warm. My wife felt embarrassed for the staff so she drunk hers anyway as she did not want another accusatory conversation in front of our group. I had to ask for mine to be replaced as I felt that it was unpleasant. That concludes my feedback although I should say that there were other deficiencies. You have been warned!"
