"Having popped down the seafront at lunchtime, we were surprised to see pretty much all the food establishments were closed. While sitting outside the Rose and Crown pub, enjoying a drink in the sun, we spotted Woody's across the way. As the pub didn't do food, we popped over and got a takeaway. Upon entry, Woody's appeared very clean, tidy, and structured. It had clear designated ‘order’ and ‘collection’ areas, as to avoid confusion and customer build-up. The lady working on the till was engaging and upbeat. Once paid, she directed me to the collection area. Another lady was working at the collection area, preparing, and assembling the food. She too was engaging. She even went that bit extra and asked if I’d like some lemon to accompany my fish. Something I don’t believe I’ve ever been asked before from a fish and chip takeaway. From purchase to collection, I’d say I was there for no more than 4 minutes. Whilst it was relatively quiet, it was a very quick turnaround. I felt the chips were a bit too soggy, however, my girlfriend very much disagreed. Personal taste I suppose. Sogginess aside, they were fluffy, consistent chips. The fish was excellent! Very light, tasty batter (a nice change from some of the dense, indestructible batter some shops offer) and the fish itself was extremely succulent. Whether you’re after the classic fish and chips on the seafront or just a simple takeaway, I would strongly recommend visiting Woody’s Fish Bar."

Chips were bordering undercooked, cod very greasy. Small portion sizes. Curry sauce is nice. Personally wouldn’t return.

Had small cod and large chips, fish was very small compared to my last visit and to much batter..would much prefer my food wrapped in the traditional way rather than the expensive printed boxes and bags which are totally over the top in my view View menu

We had to try this fish n chip shop as my husbands uncle was called Ron Wood (not related). So thought it was an omen to try it. We def wasnt disappointed, coming from a seaside town myself, i feel im quite good at recognising a good portion of fisn chips. Which this certainly was. Cod was beautiful, so fresh, batter was lovely, not pappy or thick, and the chips were spot on. Sat down by the beach on a perfect summer lunch time , with a very happy pooch who loved his sausage from there too. Would def recommend.

"Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
