"The pub has recently re opened along the theme of fine ales and tapas. When the owner is present all is fine he's calm, cheerful, engaging and customer focused. The tapas and food is improving and Maz really does care about his food. The recently added Sunday Roast at £6.99 is a good price but as this is week one I'm yet to try it ! Maz works hard and has high standards. When the boss is away the mice will play! Service at the bar slides, the staff are less engaging and some find their phones more interesting than the customers. Then there's the gents ! Again if the boss is there attention to detail is everything but when he's away ...... The imminent introduction of sport will help but at the minute, great location, good food, good car parking but the bar staff are letting the side down badly !!"

Found out that the Rose and Crown was still open so we walked round for a drink and hoping to get something to eat. What a shame they are not doing food any more. So I can't see us going just for a drink View menu

Staff behind the bar are slow to serve, just stood chatting. Dog poo in the beer garden where the kids were playing and stood in it all.. We told the staff and they didn't seem at all bothered. Disgusting.

The staff, the food are great and allowing children in is fine if they are well behaved!! We went for tea on a Friday and about 6 kids were. Constantly running in and out of the pub yelling at one another, the door opening and shutting causing a cold draft. The parents took no notice because the kids weren't bothering them. Not conducive to a relaxing start to the weekend! We will think twice before going again, a shame because Westhoughton. Needs a nice traditional pub.

"A special Event in a special Restaurant. My Wife and I visited the Holiday Inn near Bolton town centre for a special birthday treat in early June 2016. We had pre booked a table in the superb Hardies Restaurant and on arrival we were quickly shown to our table by the very efficient young lady who looked after us all evening She was very attentive without being obtrusive, Starters were chosen, ordered, and delivered within about 15 minutes. Kathleen’s Pate was a rather generous portion and she declared that it was at least as good as any she had tasted before. My choice was deep fried Goats cheese, this was very authentic and enjoyable. For Mains we finally settled on A Lamb shank for Kath which she said was Amazing, whilst I settled for the superb Cod in batter with chips and peas, a simple traditional dish but beautiful and rather large portion. Desserts took us quite a few minutes to decide on. Kath chose Hot apple pudding with a vanilla sauce. I decided on a fresh fruit salad with ice cream served on a large platter I counted nine different fruits all seasonal and extremely fresh. We both tasted each other’s desserts the apple pudding was also very nice. The waitress offered us cheese and biscuits but quite honestly by this time we were to put it bluntly, stuffed. The verdict was a truly excellent meal, time to retreat to the adjoining bar for a pleasant hours relaxation. To conclude we made the right choice to have our special event at Hardies and we will definitely visit again. Thanks to all concerned."
