"As I was walking to my hotel (ETAP), and started looking for a place to eat it was PM. I walked by the top hotel in Saarbrucken (part of the Relais and Chateaux network) and bumped into a guy pushing a stroller, and...asked him for advice. He pointed me to the Schlachthof and told me it was owned and operated by the same people who owned the Relais and Chateaux hotel we had just walked by. So I gave it a try. It's in a non-descript part of town, apparently close to the slaughterhouse hence their focus on beef (though pork, lamb is available). This is a meat lover's place. The restaurant looks quite new and shiny with a larger room in a type of glass walled space, and a smaller room next to the bar where I sat. Service was efficient and friendly, english limited, but we got by, with a little help from patrons sitting close by (French). I'm not a big beef person, but went for their choicest cut it was nicely done, and good, coming with a modest selection of well cooked vegetables. I had ordered a beer to start euros! Sure beats Paris prices and also a glass of good Bordeaux to go with the meal euros more like Paris.. I came out of the restaurant feeling good about the experience. I thought it needed another years of operation to give it a little more of a well worn in kind of feel (it did feel like construction had just finished). Otherwise, I recommend it."
