"Visited today as a family of 6 adults Initially waited to be served until another customer possibly a regular told a member of staff we had been waiting .When the food arrived it was well presented but on starting to eat it the food was only warm Carrots hard roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding hard to cut through .Had to ask for extra gravy as hardly any also had to ask for mint sauce for lamb meals After receiving 3 out of 6 desserts 1 was actually cold including the custard. After waiting for the other 3 desserts we called a young female member of staff who just looked at us blank until we said what is happening to the other 3 desserts she answered sorry the microwave is slow A family member then went to the bar told them not tobothrr with the 3 misding desserts and paid the In my opinion the overpriced bill .First and last time here"

Popped in for a meal and a few drinks. Paul and Helen are excellent hosts and the Fisherman's pie and Hunters Chicken were delicious

The restaurant has noticeably improved since the previous owners. The food quality and portion sizes are great, and the staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is more relaxed now, and we didn't feel like we were being rushed. View menu

service was great, very friendly and the pub was beautiful and cozy, beautiful decorated for christmas. I was just disappointed by eating especially the steak was £16 and was small, fat and hard! my mother got gammon, which was okay, but nothing special.

Absolutely amazing experience at the Ship Inn for our family funeral gathering. Helen and Paul provided outstanding food and excellent service, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The atmosphere was lovely and calm, perfect for any event or just a quiet drink. Highly recommend for any occasion. Thank you so much, Helen and Paul - you truly exceeded our expectations. I went to the restaurant with my aunts for lunch today. We all had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I look forward to coming back when the weather gets warmer because they have a lovely outdoor area next to the canal. The new owners were lovely and very attentive, they couldn't have done more for us. Thank you for a lovely afternoon, guys!

Just got back from lunch here today. Not been for a number of years but heard there were new owners so thought I'd give it a try. I had meat and potatoe pie with thick cut chips and my friend had battered prawns and chips. Was really nice, all fresh, home cooked and hot. The staff were also lovely, it might have been the manager who dealt with us mainly but not sure, but he was very friendly and chatty. There was a little bit of a wait for the food but that's ok as it was a busy Good Friday. However we were kept updated by him and he went to the kitchen to check on our order without us having to ask. Only slight criticism is that the pie crust was a little hard but not that bothered as gener...

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
