"Four of us enjoyed a delicious, fairly-priced lunch at the Sol Cafe in Lyon's old town last week. We ordered a range of salads, but preceded our individual main courses with a shared tapas platter. The tapas selection was varied and very tasty. The tapas plate could have served as a full lunch for two, but was enough for each of us four to enjoy several dishes. There was a mix of meat and vegetarian tapas. The salads were also very good, and generous. Additional main courses were available for vegetarians. There was seating under umbrellas outside the restaurant, as well as inside. This restaurant would have been a good choice whichever season you were visiting, or even if you were a Lyon local. Lots of tourists around, of course, but a cut above the typical tourist place. Recommended."

La cuisine est simple mais bien préparée et pleine de saveurs. La terrasse en face du restaurant est très agréable.

Been here years ago. Located on street in old town with several Michelin Star restaurants. Friendly, welcoming service. Good portions at fair price. Quality okay.

We visited this restaurant twice and both times we were very satisfied with the served Food. The place is very busy. The service is fast, professionell and focused to keep the table full of guests.

Really enjoyed our meal here in Vieux Lyon, nice to find a restaurant that isn't a Bouchon in this area of town! Don't expect an extensive wine list it's sold by the glass but the Sauvignon Blanc I had was a reasonable price and a reasonable wine.

On a river cruise up the Rhone we had to stop in Lyon, the home of French gastronomy. After wandering about the old centre of Lyon, we came across Sol Cafe and were very pleased we did. The wine was good, the service was good and the seafood was excellent. A very pleasant lunch at a reasonable price

"My wife and I dined here on a Saturday night (having made a reservation several days in advance), and it was one of the best dining experiences we have had in France in a long time. We reserved for the early seating, showed up on time, and were among the first customers there. We had a small table near the door. The disadvantage is that we were occasionally wafted by a cold draft from the front door. The bigger advantage was that we were sitting near the restaurant's beautiful, precision, hand-operated meat slicer. The specialty starter is beef that has been cured for seven months with seven spices. It is sliced paper thin (and that is no exaggeration) and served heaped on a plate. Heavenly. My wife and I ordered only one of these plates and it was more than ample for the two of us.That was followed by our starters. I ordered the minestrone marocain légèrement épicé comme à Tanger (Moroccan minestrone, lightly spiced as in Tangiers), and my wife the rillettes de crabe aux petits légumes et Granny Smith (shredded crab with little vegetables and pieces of Granny Smith apple). Both were delicious. For our main dishes I had a pavé de cerf (deer steak), which was ample and perfectly cooked. My wife had fish, also cooked to perfection. I don't recall the wine we ordered, but the choice was from wines that were at their peak (not just wines one or two years old), yet the prices were reasonable. One remark about the decore: it manages to be a bit traditional and modern at the same time, with reproductions of paintings by Modigliani and various early 20th-century (mainly French) artists adorning the wall.Overall, a restaurant worth going out of your way for."
