""Charming venue in a lovely village in Northamptonshire, right on the edge of Rutland. The term 'Sondes' refers to an instrument that automatically sends data from hard-to-reach places such as underground or underwater—I had to look that up! The pub is dog-friendly in the bar area, which is a great touch. The carvery is absolutely delightful, with everything made from scratch. It's truly one of the best I've ever had. They also offer fantastic afternoon teas, delicious starters, and incredible desserts. It's such a beautiful spot to enjoy delicious food. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. It was disappointing—staff seemed inattentive and not particularly engaged. However, the place was quite crowded, and they did a commendable job of keeping everyone happy, so credit goes to the staff. It seems there could be improvements in management or training, but I mention this kindly. Parking is available at the rear of the venue; just look for the entrance on the left before the pub as you head downhill. There is disabled parking at the back too, though there is a slope to consider. The restrooms are clean. Rockingham Castle is just up the hill, another beautiful site to explore with dog-friendly gardens. #WalkswithBuddy #BuddyFriendlyPubs""

Had a celebration lunch on Sunday with 18 people. Food was very good and staff were very helpful. We have had big family gathering there before and both times couldn't fault it. Carvery always good.

I had the roasted vegetable curry but failed to find anything roasted just aldente broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas and a bland sauce. Side salad looked as though it had been doing the rounds all day. Staff were nice enough

Our family gathering was well looked after and the good was excellent. I had a vegetarian carvery option, which was very reasonably priced and there was plenty of choice. Our party of some 20bpeople was well provided for and we enjoyed the day. View menu

Our experience was very enjoyable. The restaurant was serving a Christmas menu. I had a roast, and my partner had salmon. Our meals were well prepared and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was comfortable and well presented. Overall, we both had a lovely evening. Prices for food and drink were reasonable.

We strongly recommend the igloo experience! It provided a beautiful atmosphere for the holiday season, and the food was fantastic as well. The starter was delivered to our igloo, and for our main course, we opted for the carvery, which was just a short walk across the courtyard to the main building. I can't recommend it highly enough!

The staff work so incredibly hard to make sure the food is well prepared and served in a timely manner. The portions are great and the quality is super. I have a meatless Sunday roast for only £8 but couldn’t manage it all. Charlie bought my vegan gravy incredibly quickly making our visit a real treat. We will definitely return and recommend The Sondes Arms at Rockingham. View menu

Busy pub/hotel in a quaint village where all the front doors of the houses are a particular shade of green, by order it would seem. I happened to get here on carvery night and was treated to an excellent meal, with the unusual treat of being able to have different meats (ham and beef in my case) together. Loads of veg and the biggest Yorkshire puds I've ever seen. Certainly worth a visit if you are in this lovely neck of the woods..

Where do I begin? We were greeted by incredibly friendly staff and seated in a beautifully designed dining room (I must say, the entire interior of the building is stunning). For our lunch, we chose the carvery, and it was absolutely delicious. The meat and vegetables were cooked to perfection, and at £12.95 per person, it was a fantastic value. This has become our new favorite spot for Sunday lunch. Thank you, Sonde! John and Michelle.

"We arrived as a group of 6 early to have a drink before our meal. The bar is small which we new as we have been here lots in the past, however the experience was not helped by 3 kids aged 5-6 in the corner, they where doing what kids do! so I have no complaint of them , its just not what i want when going out for an evening!! The staff are very pleasant, helpful and attentive when its not too busy but as the place filled up we found ourselves having to wait and catch their eye to order more drinks etc. There was about a 40 min wait for the food which generally i don't mind as I often think its going to be freshly cooked! 3 of us had the fish and chips which quite frankly was probably the poorest I have ever had in a dine in experience, the batter was soggy and dripping in oil, the chips where not home made and the liquidized peas tasteless, we all felt it was inedible! 2 had the chicken kiev and enjoyed it very much, 1 had the lamb special, 4 cubes of potato a few veg and a load of lamb bones with very little meat on them doesn't cut it im afraid. The staff where very apologetic and replaced the fish and chips, the other didnt want to make a fuss and just ordered a pudding to fill her up. They did give us our drinks free which was very kind of them and we did leave a tip for the effort of the young waiting staff. Just hope they can improve and it was just a bad night for them."
