"So I walk into this place that looks really cosy from the outside, with my senior mom. The place is half empty, so we are not sure if they still accept guests. No one greets us at the entrance, so I peak into the sitting...area behind the curtain and address a shortwhite haired slim female staff really quietly and politely: Excuse me, are you open? This witch looks at us as if we bothered her during her toilet break, and barks at us with such unexpected annoyed voice and face expression, that I almost jumped at my place: Yes!! I'm open!!! And do you have a reservation??? I was so embarrassed in front of my mom, I told this creature to chill and walked away. Jeez, how is she in hospitality even"

Lovely restaurant. We sat in the courtyard which was very pleasant. We ordered salmon salad and also asparagus. The asparagus was good. Only cash accepted

The staff is so sweet, and we were a big group! The ribs were out of this world! I would recommend them! Better than the usual US ribs trust me you won't..

Out for a city break in Berlin, minutes walk away we found this lovely restaurant. I had the roast pork knuckle with mushrooms, the crackling was great and lashings of mustard. Busy but not too busy. Lovely staff, lovely ambience. Now declared “our favourite...Berlin eatery”

It was our first time in Berlin and this place was recommended by the staff at our hotel. Sophien did not disappoint! Great beer, pork knuckles and bratwurst. We were so pleased with our dinner. We sat at the garden area and it’s very...well decorated, very homey with lots of greenery. Highly recommended

Found this close to our hotel. The food was local style pork knuckle, cabbage roll and goulash with homemade noodles. The mains tasted good. The goulash could have had more grave and the sauerkraut with the knuckle had an odd flavour, as did the...mashed potatoes. The strawberry torte for desert was very good. Beware they only take cash. We ate in the courtyard which was nice

I went in on my own and took advantage of the Klopse on the lunchtime specials menu, which did not disappoint. It is a bit of a pub type place. I was sat in between a group of Berlin women having a get together over...a beer and an American tourist family trying out real German food. I would recommend this place. It is at the back of the Hackischen Höfe, a place usually known for overpriced eateries catering for tourists. Sophien stands out here as a realistically priced normal place offering decent nononsense grub

We're there on Monday night, last night of holiday and my birthday. A really original looking, quirky tradtional I guess German restaurant. I am glad we booked. The numbers of locals are a great sign for great food. Three of us had roast pork knuckle...with sautéed potatoes and chanterelles. Perfectly cooked and delicious especially the crackling. stars for the pork knuckle. Diner number had schnitzel with chanterelles and potatoes. The best schnitzel of the holiday for him. I suggest booking and do not be put off by the decor, its a fascinating record of history
