"We are trying to be more healthy and do more walks in the local area. We live in Crosby but decided to head to Parbold for a countryside walk. We did a lovely walk along the canal tow path and into fairy Glen and decided we would have lunch on the way back. I had asked my son to google where was nice to eat in Parbold and he suggested the Stocks Tavern. When we arrived we noticed other people who had been walking the route were sitting at outside tables as it was a lovely day. We decided to eat inside and as soon as we arrived a very nice lady came over and sorted a table for us and was very welcoming. The pub was very pleasant inside and clean and fresh. We ordered a starter and main each. I had the gin cured chargrilled salmon starter and I can honestly say I have eaten in many of the fine dining restaurants in the area and around the world and I have never had such a refreshing and beautiful salmon starter. The chef obviously is very talented and knows what he is doing. The little parcels pf G and T granita and also the fresh crumble in your mouth croutons were worthy of a Michelin starred restaurant in my opinion and the salmon itself was of outstanding quality. The other meals were of a very high standard and the service was also excellent. I would definitely visit again and it was a very good experience all round. It was very busy on a Monday lunchtime and we arrived quite late into the lunchtime service which I suppose says it all really. Highly recommend."

This restaurant serves one of the best Sunday roasts I've had in a long time. The quality is top-notch, with the meal being well presented and tasting as good as it looks.

Great to find a local pub with atmosphere, live music, an extensive quality menu and excellent service. First time at Stocks for many years big mistake will definitely be back.

Consistently excellent quality and service, the menu is interesting and delicious, we always go for the special menu, not sure if the specials are available everyday. Sunday roast equally good.

This is a fantastic little spot. Although I didn't have a meal here, I enjoyed a few drinks and would definitely return. It's a perfect place to stop by for a drink while taking a stroll around Parbold. No complaints at all. View menu

The menu has a huge choice of both starters and mains- it was hard to choose what to order. We opted for the roast lamb and the pie of the day. Great food which was piping hot, huge portions and great value. The staff were friendly. Good choice of beers. It was only our second visit but will definitely be returning.

Brilliant service for a family birthday. Celebration of a party of seven during the busy Christmas period. Great atmosphere, lovely and efficient staff and brilliant menu. The Sea Bass was a favourite amongst our party along with the traditional turkey roast. The traditional beers were really well kept. We were impressed with the overall experience and will be back for another helping! Thank you!

Our recent visit to Stocks was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant has undergone some changes since our last visit, transitioning from a pub with dining to a more formal dining establishment. The decor was warm and inviting. For our mains, we enjoyed the hake loin and plaice fillets, both of which were delicious and generously portioned. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was also a highlight. While the service could have been slightly improved, it did not overshadow the overall experience of enjoying a fantastic meal. View menu

I went here on a Friday afternoon after taking my Mum to the nearby hospital. I was looking for a homely little pub to cheer her up and just stumbled across The Stocks Tavern. Just off the main road, super easy to find. The menu makes it really difficult to decide what to go for because the choice is fantastic! We opted for the lunch deal, which we found to be really reasonably priced. The food wow. All freshly cooked I had the cauliflower cheese spring rolls and they were sensational. Then the cheese and onion pie the portions are really generous and speed of service was perfect. Not too rushed, just spot on. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us it was honestly one of the b...

Have often visited for lunch and found the venue, the food, the prices and the staff interaction to be spot on, so when looking to meet some friends for dinner we automatically thought of visiting The Stocks Tavern. Sadly, although the staff and the quality of the food were to the same high standard, the prices were expensive for what was on offer. One of our party had the steak pie and one had cheese pie at £16 and £15 respectively and both came with just chips, not even a pea or carrot to compliment the meal unless purchased separately and additionally priced, potentially turning each into a £20 meal. It did take the edge of the evening and while we will still visit for lunch I don't think...

"Firstly, Google shows Rooms/Service/Location ratings, when my review is about The Barn at Moor Hall RESTAURANT. So take my room rating as being for the food..... I treated my mother for her 84th birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience. Service from Ross was exceptional. Especially his ability to make my mother feel special. There was a younger server who served our main course and his dish explanation was a little rushed and less clear -1), especially when explaining to an older person. The location is beautiful, and the ambience is perfect. Just enough noise to provide some warmth to the atmosphere, and never too much noise it is intrusive. We felt the wines by the glass were reasonably priced, although the red selection was a little unadventurous -1). There were only two very very minor markdowns in regard our food; the turbot in my main dish lacked that 'butteryiness ' flavor associated with turbot -3). It was still a nice piece of fish, but lacked the WOW factor. And whilst the cheese selections we made were very good, I think the menu pricing should use the word 'slithers ' :O Whilst we didn 't want, or need, big chunks of cheese, I did feel the amount provided was edging on embarrassment, even for a fine food restaurant such as this -1). I would have also like to have been offered some of the house sourdough Which is EXCELLENT) to accompany the cheese Of course I could have asked for it, but was quite full by that time). Whilst all the remaining food was excellent, I 'd like to point out the potato side dish, which was an unexpected show stopper. Thinly sliced fondant style potato, arranged in four stacks, delicously crispy on the outside, and topped with the most amazing brown butter hollandaise sauce. DO NOT MISS THESE ! I honestly think the pricing is 'spot on ' for the overall dining experience and the auto gratuity of 10% sits well for the quality of service provided. Whilst I live in the USA, when I 'm next back in the UK I 'd probably try and arrange my schedule so I could eat here again lunch or dinner)."
