"We visit Tarff for coffee or lunch at least once a week and have nothing but praise for the quality of the food and lovely staff. However, it is now a regular occurrence that the card reader for electronic payments isn 't working, the story being that it declines every transaction. There is no cash machine on site and no option to get cashback from the retail shop, as we 've been told that the cafe is operated independently of Tarff. At a time when most retailers are asking customers to pay by card rather than cash to protect their staff from Covid, we don 't always carry cash, and were very disappointed to arrive yet again and find that the card machine wasn 't working. On this occasion, we had forgotten to bring cash, and so had no option but to leave and go elsewhere. Its location means that Tarff is definitely a 'destination ' coffee shop, so I feel that the very least the operator could do would be to organise a replacement machine as a matter of urgency. Perhaps a comment from the coffee shop owner would be appropriate on this occasion?"

Without doubt one of the highlights of a trip to Dumfries. Delicious food (particularly breakfast) served by really, really nice people.

Great shopping experience, soup was excellent for lunch with sandwiches made fresh. Would highly recommend this as a stopping place on Neway from or to Stranraer.

I called in the late afternoon for coffee before heading home. Their cake selection was limited, but we absolutely loved their sticky syrup cake. We will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you. View menu

We stopped by for a light lunch and were not disappointed. The soups and sandwiches were delicious, and we enjoyed the Victorian Sandwich Cake as well. We will definitely be returning in the future. Great job to everyone involved.

Every time we go to Dumfries we call in for either a mid morning snack or for lunch and we 've always found the 'Home Made ' food to be first class along with the service that we receive. Well done to management and staff for looking after us.

Ordered soup with bread and it took about half an hour for it to come, other people just coming in were getting served much quicker! I eventually had to go and complain! Also charged £1.80 for a can of Irn bru from a multipack, daylight robbery! Won’t be back in a hurry! View menu

This restaurant is a delightful spot for a lunchtime meal. I enjoyed the cream of carrot and parsnip soup, which was absolutely delicious - I could have easily had another bowl. To finish off, I indulged in a heavenly fresh cream strawberry tart. I will definitely be returning.

Appalling service I went on recommendation of a friend with my blind severely disabled husband when it came to pay it was “sorry cash only and if you had come the right way into the cafe you would have seen the signs” when your with someone who struggles to actually walk at all you look for the easiest path to where your going not spend time looking to see if your going the right way will never darken their doors again and from the attitude I doubt if that will bother them moral of this review is if your disabled give Tarff a big miss. Note I have not carried cash sine the start of the pandemic!

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
