"I was recommended this eatery on a post on Facebook. A cafe that serves authentic german food, in North Yorkshire ! When you enter the cafe it doesn't look like it serves german food in fact it is pretty much non discript, it was very busy when we entered and we ended up sharing a table with another couple. Now some of you readers are probably wondering why german food, as an ex serviceman I was introduced to german food whilst on postings in Germany , now Richmond is very close to Catterick a garrison town so there explains why Lynnete the cafe owner diversified and started serving authentic german food next to traditional English fayre, and it really does work, Lynnete an ex servicemans daughter has really captured a niche market and has done so with great success. I really recommend this cafe to anyone wishing to try something uniquely different or those who want to wonder down memory lane, serving schnitzel, bratwurst and frikadellen all served with red salt seasoned fries and washed down with authentic german bier then get down to the bread bowl you will definitely not be disappointed."

5/5 Me and my dad had 2 gyros and they were amazing, will 100% be going back. The staff were so lovely and nothing was too much trouble.

The food was superb and transported me back to Germany. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Their passion for supporting the veteran community was evident, from booking events for veteran groups to hosting the Veterans Breakfast Clubs.

The food at this restaurant is exquisite, especially if you are a fan of German cuisine. It was a smart decision to open near the garrison where many BAOR Veterans reside. If you haven't dined here yet, don't wait any longer. It's the best German food you'll find outside of Germany. View menu

I absolutely adore the "secret cafe" that my family introduced me to, and I can't wait for them to reopen after lockdown. Having lived in Germany for 5 years, I am thrilled to be able to indulge in my favorite cuisine once again. The place is always clean, well-organized, and the staff is friendly. And let's not forget about their perfect currywurst with pommes!

I enjoyed my food here, I had schnitzel and my wife had gyros. We have previously lived in Germany for 7 years prior to moving to the area and found this nice little cafe, from the outside the themed cafe was very welcoming. Once inside, the decor really let's the cafe down, unfortunately it looks tired and slightly scruffy, it was a hot day and there was no air conditioning or a fan in sight. Overall I would go in there to eat again, if I fancied German food but with a overhaul of the interior, I would easily give the cafe a 4/5* rating. If the inside had a Bavaria style theme, I'm sure it would excel.

We are locals in the area and have always been intrigued by The Bread Bowl Cafe. The exterior looks charming and authentic, but upon entering, we immediately regretted our decision to dine there. The stale and foul odor that greeted us was overwhelming, reminiscent of neglected deep fryers that haven't been cleaned in decades. The smell lingered in our nostrils throughout the meal and clung to our clothes, hair, and stroller long after we departed. The dining area was unkempt, the decor was worn, the meals were unappetizing, and the coffee tasted salty. It's hard to believe that this establishment is still in operation. We are puzzled as to who would leave positive reviews on Trip Advisor fo... View menu

This place is my go to joint when I fancy a bit more than the norm for breakfast.Great quality food is served and in a decently spaced and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a small group of friends or as a casual date idea. Prices can be a little steep as things like chips are expensive and unfortunately not a great size serving, however they are fresh cooked and the rest of the menu provides a nice choice of German as well as other cuisine. One of the practices I like is paying when I have eaten as it allows for extra ordering etc. Staff are all very pleasant and happy to help, service is adequate givin the time it takes to cook meals. Also there are toys for toddlers and younger kids to keep...

We came last year and we were bowled over by this place.. So we came back so glad we did. The lady who seems to own the cafe is so friendly. Our dog Paddy was with us so we asked if it would be okay for him to come in. Yes no problem (then she brought him a fresh bowl of water and a beautiful cut up sausage). We all decided to go for the full English with fried bread (the best fried bread ever). The only part of the breakfast I could fault was the tinned tomato otherwise it was just outstanding. We had a pot of tea for two fresh orange juice coffee. When we came to pay the bill was £21 just unbelievable for this quality and service. Although it's not posh or upmarket it's clean and the owner...

"all those people who leave 1 star (or low star reviews) have either extremely high expectations or just have to be out to harm the call of a gem of a sandwich shop. I stopped yesterday, was late for lunch to my surprise and joy that they were still open, was a waiting queue to eat, so I might have been happy that they thought they would do 1 more order. I had the cheese-cutney sandwich couldn't resist the Scotch egg with black pudding. the Scotch egg was phenomenal, black pudding mixed with the sausage meat, a soft egg yolk practically still runny, which I really did not expect to add only to the already large aromene, the egg comes with a small pot homemade brown sauce (ketchup is an option, but I prefer brown soße) also the soße is a normal but it is a manifestation, it is a the sandwich was ineffective, thick-cut cheese on a homemade roll with homemade chutney (I suppose when everything else was made home) filled with fresh salad, I am curious what the difference between this is the ploughman’s, as it was in the round a ploughmans sandwich. the brot, cheese salad were all fresh taste amazing, the chutney transformed it, was like a cross between chutney salsa like the brown sauce was more sweet without much flavor, but really a great amount taste to what was possibly the best sandwich I had ever had! well made youngs, eating is great a try worth. reasonably also consider that it is the center of harrogate."
