"Earlier this month my wife and I returned to the Bull Hotel where we spent part of our honeymoon 25 years ago. From the outside very little had changed, but the hotel is now owned by the Barkby Group so we anticipated that some internal refurbishment may have taken place. Sadly, that was not the case and whilst the public areas are quite characterful, the bedrooms appear to be largely unchanged. As our stay was just two nights we had booked a small double, but it was really unsuitable as a double room with hardly any space, no wardrobe, no chest of drawers and a window with no view which barely opened. The weather was hot and we struggled to sleep as a consequence. At check-out we noticed that the room rate had been hiked to wipe out the saving we should have achieved as a result of the temporary VAT reduction. Like elsewhere in the Cotswolds, it appears that greedy owners are increasing prices and lining their pockets instead of using the VAT cut generate additional business. The one positive note was that most of the staff were very friendly and helpful, although it should be said that the Hotel Manager failed to speak to me on two occasions after requesting a conversation with her."

My parents husband and myself all had an excellent meal. Baked pears with Parma ham, pork belly, roast rump of lamb and fillet steak. All beautifully prepared, looking lovely and smelling great. Attentive staff completed the evening. We shall be going back.

We arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen close, at 20:00 (still don't understand why in UK kitchens close so early.. but anyway! but the staff was really nice and welcoming, despite the time.Social distancing was followed for the tables, but not really followed for the others as some people were stading at the bar to order their drinks and it looked like they were all too close to each other.The restaurant was really pretty and food was ok.
