"From reviews and recent experience of being unable to book a table for the place being fully booked, I was pleasantly surprised when i phoned last minute on the off chance and we were able to book a Sunday dinner around 2.30pm , being told there was immediate availability. On arrival as a party of four we were amazed to find the entire dining room empty. We were presented with a 3 course menu for 10.95. In our experience this is cheap. Starters were white bait, black pudding with crispy belly pork with apple salad, breaded goats cheese balls with chutney or tomato soup. Main courses were beef, chicken, turkey, lamb shank or sea bass. We ordered the crispy belly pork, black pudding and apple salad which i found inedible. There was nothing crispy about the pork, it seemed to be part heated, the black pudding seemed re heated, tasteless and dry and the whole thing was drizzled in something that seemed to be similar to pesto. Luckily my husband ate both our starters and he didn’t have much of a problem with it. My daughter was offered fruit as she suffers with dairy allergy and was happy with that. My son had the goats cheese which he enjoyed but was surprised the ‘chutney’ was more of a tomato sauce. When the mains arrived after choosing 3 beef,1 chicken we were all disappointed that the potatoes were very large and uncooked in the middle. The cauliflower was coated with an extremely runny white tasteless sauce and the Yorkshire puddings were not homemade. The beef was tasty and my daughter was happy with the chicken itself. Gravy was good as was the other veg including red cabbage. For dessert we ordered Eaton Mess,Sticky toffee pudding , Chocolate Brownie and again my daughter was offered fruit with having an allergy, she was ok with this. The Eaton mess was not as described, it did not have a selection of berries but was strawberries, shop bought meringue and whipped cream and ice cream. The chocolate brownie was as expected with Ice cream, no issues. And the sticky toffee pudding was ok, served with ice cream. All desserts were served with homemade cinder toffee which was a nice touch, however in my opinion, it would have been better to make the meringues in the Eaton mess before adding unexpected extras. Same with the cauliflower cheese and red cabbage, we would rather the potatoes were edible and Yorkshires homemade before making extras such as these. The waitress service was very good, attentive and efficient. Overall though, we were dissatisfied and we won’t be returning. Only one other couple dined later on, during the time were there. The atmosphere was cold and lacked cosiness compared to the bar area with its many customers and open fire."

Was keen to try the new menu and wasn’t disappointed. We had very nice rib-eye steaks and a bottle of wine. Pleased we booked as all tables were taken while we were there.

I visited a village nearby for the weekend and made a dinner reservation based on reviews. The restaurant had a minimalistic and cozy setting, with very friendly staff. The waitress was outstanding and ensured that all allergies were taken care of, which made the dining experience even better. The food was delicious with generous portion sizes. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Last weekend I thought I would take the drive from deepest dark Mold to Pantymwyn to treat the lovely wife on her 45th birthday. In a nutshell a dreadful night out and experience. Ordered Beer battered Cod and chips for £12.95. Sounds nice I hear you say. It was a shocker. Batter was like chewing rubber and tasteless. The chips were clearly from Iceland Frozen foods and were under cooked. The mushy peas were OK. All in all rotten value for money. The Big Fish in Mold do Cod and chips for £4.90 and they are always quality. The Chef at the Crown Inn needs to get to the Big Fish in Mold to sample proper fish and chips and learn how to cook food properly. Much more food like this and the Crown w...

We'd heard that the Crown Inn was under new management and had a new chef so we thought we would give it a try as not been there for a while. It was early evening on a Friday and the car park was full which was nice to see, the pub was busy and had a warm and friendly atmosphere and we could see straight away that many improvements had been made. Last time we visited we'd noticed how tired and scruffy the pub had become but the new landlord had certainly put a lot of effort in to turning the place around. The interior had been decorated and the restaurant looked really nice with new furniture and was really busy. The landlord Martyn and all his bar staff had smart matching uniforms and could...
