"Having looked for a venue for 6 of us to meet and have a nice evening meal we looked at Powdermills which is good food but dated decor but that was fully booked and we came across the Claverton. With the high reviews i suppose we had high expectations and with a weekend menu of £35 plus £5 for a steak there looked to be a few good choices for someone who doesn't eat fish. On arrival we were met by a pleasant young lady who took us to the lounge to read the menus and sorted out a pre-dinner drink. Lounge felt a bit average and not a warm welcoming fire or comfy seating, felt a little like a waiting room with upright seating and typical corporate brochure tables, no real ambience or character. It came to ordering and sadly they had run out of the Camembert and only had one portion of turkey left when three diners wanted it, running out of choices i could actually eat or want to eat i had to go for the steak yes, sadly a fussy eater) Porkbelly starter, one of the cheapest cuts of pork ever but with the tiny portions they must have been very special pigs! Marsh Steak was good but again not a big portion for the supplement of £5 Pudding was good although a substitute as the apple and rhubard crumble had run out! However sadly the dining room was a little cramped and simply just lacked any atmosphere as did the bar and the hotel, it was like a morgue, no ambient background music no real Christmas cheer, all in all a bit of an odd experience. Although a very young workforce is acceptable there wasn't even a hint of anyone over 20 on the premises in charge or appeared at any time. Same experience you often have in budget venues! Finally we had to get a member of staff who was washing up to retrieve coats for her to reach in with wet soapy hands to pick up an expensive winter coat! Not really what i hoped for....................Not sure i would recommend."

The nicest surprise was to be offered a local English wine from a vineyard which is just around the corner. It was called 1066 and was a white wine that went perfectly with our fish

I had a fantastic cooked breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients at this restaurant. The dining room had a beautiful view overlooking the gardens, which featured a large fishpond with the biggest koi carp I have ever seen.

I celebrated my birthday with my family at this cozy restaurant. Despite its small dining room, it comfortably seated our party of 6 along with other guests. We all had a fantastic meal and found the set priced menu to be a great value for our money, offering the choice of one, two, or three courses. I would definitely make a reservation here again.

Wonderful meal fantastic service as usual. Only disappointment was that my favourite Camembert starter was not on the menu for the first time (please bring it back) so had to try the Smoked mackeral pate instead which was very yummy though so that was good. Had the shoulder of lamb for main which was heavenly. Highly recommend this place and look forward to going back later in the year.

The restaurant is located in a picturesque countryside and it exudes a charming and luxurious atmosphere. Lorraine and her staff are incredibly helpful, the rooms are spotless and well-maintained. The menu is diverse and we dined there on consecutive evenings, enjoying food of Michelin star quality. Furthermore, the prices are very reasonable considering the high standard of the dishes. We are eagerly looking forward to our next visit.

Booked a table for two ,for an anniversary dinner with my wife ,,,four days in advance, We arrived about twenty minutes before the the booking time, to have a drink before dinner. I knocked on the door and walked around both sides of the hotel and could not find anyone to let us in . We waited a few more minutes in the car and tried again without success. We had to book another restaurant at short notice. Very annoyed as this was a special occasion and after two text messages from this hotel to confirm the booking they still did not provide the service that evening. After an hour we received a phone call to enquire if we were still coming to which I replied ,,NO. I would not recommend this h...

We had dinner here. The menu is a bit unusual, with not too many homely choices, but we both had shoulder of lamb, which turned out to be a stew. Very pleasant and nicely presented it was too. Staff were (I think somewhat inexperienced but very keen to do the right thing and there were no mistakes. It must be said that the dining room is rather cramped and the walls are painted dark red, which makes the whole room rather claustrophobic. We took coffee after the meal in the sitting room adjacent. A little biscotti or even a petit four with the coffee would have been a nice touch but was not offered. We enjoyed the visit. £100 two courses for two people, plus bottle of wine and two coffees. Th...

Attended for our Valentine's meal. Great airy setting and not crammed with tables. Food was spot on, decent sized portions that left us satisfied without feeling uncomfortable and just enough pretentiousness to make it feel special. The staff were a true asset. Welcoming and friendly, very helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Good value for money, towards the top end of mid-range, but not quite fine dining. We'll definitely return some time. If I was to be ultra critical, the lighting wasn't great in the function room where we had our meal, it was a little on the dark side and there was a slightly annoying automatic dimming setting where the intensity of the light was constantly va...
