"We had a fantastic experience at this pub! We stumbled upon it as a convenient meeting spot with friends and decided to try it out based on the positive reviews and the tempting menu on their website. We enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch, booking a table in the dog-friendly bar area. We ended up spending over 4 hours there, feeling welcomed the entire time. The food was outstanding - the Sunday roasts were some of the best we've had, with tender meat, delicious gravy, crispy potatoes, and lovely side vegetables. Other dishes like the beef cheek and cauliflower katsu curry were also fantastic. Starters and desserts were top notch as well, and the 3-course meal for £19.99 was a great deal. We definitely plan on meeting there again in the future. The pub even had a friendly dog and the owners were very welcoming. Overall, it was a great Sunday experience, complemented by a pleasant 4-mile walk we found to do in the village beforehand."

Good quality food with South African influences. Looks a little unkempt from outside but indoors is lovely. A warm welcome from the owners. Looking forward to our next visit.

excellent service, very friendly staff. the meals were the first to guess. I am always nervous about restaurants in older buildings, as I am bound wheelchair, but the bar and restaurant were all on a level without tricky steps to negotiate. we'll be back soon.

Absolutely first class. Wood burner roaring on a cold winter night. Really friendly service and the food could not have been better. A 5 star experience. So lovely to find somewhere that is not part of a big group of restaurants. Cosy with a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return. Thank you for a perfect evening

The atmosphere inside is very cozy, and the food and service are excellent. I will definitely be coming back! (Sorry, I was having such a good time that I forgot to take photos of the delicious food.)

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
