"Whitstable is famous for its oysters the Romans liked them so much they took them back to Rome. The Forge shamelessly cshes in on this fame and charges £4 EACH for native oysters. The rock oysters were a snip at £2 each so I invested in two of those. You cannot see the oysters you are buying. You are given a number and wait. When my oysters arrived they were so tiny I felt they should have been thrown back into the sea. What a disgrace the Forge is giving Whitstable and its delicious oysters a terrible name."

Best fish chips we’ve ever had and in a perfect location beside the beach. Worth the price. Service was excellent. It was the perfect end to a fabulous day in the sunshine.

Well, this little shack on the seafront does the best oysters I've tasted in a long time. Really fresh good size and a tenna for half a dozen. **** marvellous. Well done lads.

This place is perfect for a nice alfresco evening meal. The staff are friendly and when I sitting there with my fish &chips and half pint of beer I felt that life couldn't get any better. View menu

We enjoyed the fish and chips and oysters. We sat outside the restaurant admiring the sunset. The service was quick and the fish was exceptionally well cooked. I would recommend this place to anyone.

We had a wonderful stay in Whistable, what a beautiful place, everything about it was brilliant, until we went to bed and had to listen to the ignorant, discriminatory, silver spooned opinions of the wonderful staff of this establishment until 22:25pm though the window. Might be worth noting that the tourists pay your wages, whatever their background. Wake up boys.

A lovely casual oyster shack with a sea view. The service was great and the oysters fresh, with cold beer and a fair selection of wines. Whether you grabbing a coffee for the walk, or wanting to have an early evening drink with a few oysters this spot is the spot. Visited during the week, and it wasn't overly busy can imagine it to be very popular on the weekends as it ticks all the boxes. View menu

We intended to stop for a lobster lunch but having ordered coffee from uninterested staff all busy huddled together on the mobile phones we had a chance to see through to a young lady doing the cooking. When we saw her eating a roll, licking her fingers then running her hands through her hair whilst prepping someone else's food we decided to give it a miss. We will leave the coffee next time too!

For such an affluent and trendy place I am surprised that there are no gluten free options at this place. Nevertheless, my husband went elsewhere to get something gf and I ordered cod and chips. The cod was nice but very small and the chips were not fresh, they were frozen rubbish. Such a shame as I’d like less chips but at least be fresh potatoes. Staff were unhelpful when I asked about gf and the guy looked at me like I’d landed from space.

"After never visiting Canterbury before we where looking for somewhere to have a late lunch, we came across this place which looked ok, upon entering the back room we were offered to take a seat in the front area and someone will be with us. We asked what food there was and we where sarcastically shown the food on the blackboard, after choosing what we wanted the polite man went off and put the order in. We did feel that because the man had asked a couple of questions to another member of staff that he was spoke down too a bit. Anyway after placing the order and what we wanted the food came out it wasn’t correct but because it seemed like we were going to interrupt the people in the back room we just took what we had. It was nice food though. When we went to pay we hadn’t noticed that there wasn’t a price list so when we asked for the bill we were told that it was donation, what we thought was enough, it wasn’t posted anywhere and it took us by surprise as we where standing at the till, I was going to pay in cash but was told they don’t take cash so I had to give my donation in card by telling the person how much we where donating. After plucking a figure out of air as we wasn’t prepared we paid and left. Upon leaving we felt that the person we paid thought we hadn’t paid enough and wasn’t happy with the amount but after working out what we would have paid properly we worked out that we had paid more than what it might have been if there was a proper price on everything. Overall it has a great ethos and it’s great for giving people the experience that they need to be in a working environment but they need to show the price or tell customers first that it’s donations and card only."
