"A lively and brightly lit bar/bistro with good food options and keenly priced drinks available. Flexible seating options cater for single diners, couples, small parties or larger groups (speak with the staff for bookings) If the weather is fine, make use of the patio terrace and garden space very pleasant during the summer. Nearby activities: Golf courses are fairly nearby and year round. Sailing available in the summer. Good for walking and cycling. There are a couple of small art galleries on the High Street that feature works from local artists and designers. Good for gift ideas, souvenirs and gift shopping. Walkability: Handy location as most attractions and amenities are within walking distance. Food drinks: Well run and stocked bar with plenty of options available. Drinks are keenly priced."

First takeaway delivered free last night. 1 garlic chilli chicken and 1 chicken madras. Portions of huge but enough for us. It was so tasty, perfect best curry we have had in ages.

We were visiting Carnoustie and looking for a dog friendly place to eat and came across the Aboukir Hotel. Having eaten in dog friendly restaurants for a week we were expecting more English pub grub (as we had not looked at the menu). How wrong we were. We were warmly greeted and chose from the curry menu. Not a massive choice but everything was cooked from scratch and was up there with some of the best currys we have eaten. Great little place to eat and would fully recommend. Even dog friendly which is a bonus.

First time for the family to get together in over 18 months. We waited ages for the food to arrive and when it did one meal was cold and the steak was completely overcooked. The service was poor. Complete lack of attention. We struggled to order drinks and no one asked if the food was ok. They seemed to be concentrating on take away orders and it was noticeable the the girls taking these out did not wear masks. Overall a disappointing experience which was a shame as it should have been memorable for other reasons.

"Overall, we had a disappointing family meal at the local restaurant. We booked for a table of 12 for my mum's birthday. We were the only table when we arrived. Another table of 2 arrived during our main course. There was a friendly informal server when we arrived though I got the impression he was not a formal waiter as he did not know much about the menu. He also disappeared after a short time. After this time, we were served by one of the kitchen staff. Obviously, this led to inadequate and slow service. The meals were served very slowly. We had no option to order more drinks throughout the meal. Our main course plates were not taken away after we finished and after waiting for a while we decided just to leave and get deserts at home. Some comments about the food. We were told when we first arrived that there were no steaks. That reduced our options considerably. However, what surprised us was one of the diners at the other table was served a steak! We were told that they do not have tomato sauce. This is highly unusual for a restaurant that serves steak, burgers and chicken tenders with chips. One of our party member nipped down the road to a local shop and bought a bottle ketchup for the table. The food was okay but we felt it was very one dimensional. A lot of the dishes were served in a similar manner with the same dressings and toppings. The chips were a little greasy. I would have wished that our experience was better but unfortunately it wasn't so. I understand how difficult it must be for the restaurant trade just now and we try and support local businesses. However, we would still expecting decent service and food. I tried to message the restaurant in the first instance for a response but have not received any reply."
