Stayed recently for a couple of nights. Not cheap at all but some fabulous hall/rooms that would suit weddings, functions or meetings. Beautiful gardens scenery viewed from our windows. Word of warning, drive slowly as loads of potholes but a decent sized car park once avoided. Food was on the whole very good as were the cocktails. Dog friendly with friendly, polite helpful staff. Decided to ignore the negative reviews and give it a try for a catch-up meal with my daughter, we should have avoided as the meal was ruined by poor service. Menu was very limited. The restaurant was only a third full. The waitress seated us then completely ignored us for about 10 minutes. Had to ask if we could order our drinks, bread basket and main meals. Bread came fast but drinks took about 10 mins to arrive and the food service took about 30 mins, which is far too long. They served my daughter the wrong meal, took 10-15 mins to replace with what she had ordered by which time I had finished my meal. Well situated from London and a short drive from the station, I had the privilege of staying here recently. It is a very nice hotel, beautifully styled, with lovely spaces. It also has large grounds to explore. The only thing I query is the £30 admission price for the spa. On the plus side having a specific timeslot means that you may find yourself with the entire space to yourself. The spa comprises of a large whirlpool and a steam room and sauna. There is also a relaxation room with some adjustable heated beds and sun loungers outside. We didn't have any treatments, but is the spa worth £30?
