"We had our wedding reception at The Gate Hangs Well at the end of June, and to be honest, I have to say we were disappointed overall. We were recommended the venue as we were looking for somewhere for a small gathering on a budget, so the boathouse was ideal for what we needed. We made the enquiry, and they were quick to respond to emails and provided all the information we needed they even let us have the 3 course menu and arrange for us to have beef since the regular steaks were unavailable. When we went to view the boathouse, we were advised they would be showing someone else round, so we would have to wait which we were fine with. We watched and listened in as they told the other people how they could set the room up, showed them where stuff was, generally asked them questions about their booking and even suggested they could have the piano tuned for them if they wanted to use it. When they left and it was our turn to view, we were told this is it , and we were left to ask questions about set up, etc as the information wasn 't volunteered. Still, we continued with the booking (and stayed for food after the viewing). We were told to take anything we wanted setting up the night before and to leave it with them because they had another event which we did. We also asked if they had candles for the table which they said they did and would include in the set up. Again, the night before our wedding, we had another meal there with the majority of our party. On the day of my wedding, I turned up to the venue and everything I left the night before was exactly where I put it. ON MY WEDDING DAY, while the rest of the party sat outside enjoying the day, I set up my own wedding reception... I found the candles in the windows but they didn 't have anything to light them with. I went into the toilet to take my makeup off and the young lady that was looking after us asked if I was ok because she thought I was crying. I 'm not sure of the young ladies name (dark hair) but she was the only one that seemed to care. We hope she got the flowers we left for her and that they weren 't kept by the other lady. To add insult to injury, the follow up email after the reception had someone else 's name on it! We wouldn 't recommend this venue based on our experience. I believe someone else is running the pub now, so I hope the remaining team members are now providing a better service than we received. It 's a shame because it was a nice venue."

Obviously as it's near the river, part of the garden is still flooded and out of use. This ,however, isn't cordoned off and is not illuminated at night.

A family group of 6 went to celebrate a 90th birthday. The booking was efficient and Laura, who was on duty that day, went over and above what she needed to do to make the occasion special.

booked a table for 8 people for my birthday a week in advance only to be told on arrival the restaurant was full, so we were put in the lounge area where the table was not adequate for all of us, we had to sit...at 2 separate tables, the menu is very limited and extremely over priced

Went here today for Sunday lunch with a large family group. We gave them less than 24 hours notice. Everything was absolutely spot on the food delicious (the cauliflower cheese deserves a special mention). The children had a little play area to keep them entertained. In brief, great location, great venue, great food. We will be back!

I was looking for a nice pub after a trip to a garden center close, stumbled over this pub and I couldn't say a bad word about it! very friendly staff, helpful and more than welcoming! some of the best pub food I had, and the...Garlic brot with the chili con carne was for to die! would recommend this pub 1000%, even if it were only for those who were wonderful

We went for our anniversary. The staff were friendly if a little overstretched. We ordered a gluten free pizza, and a burger with chips and salad. The pizza was disappointing, a bought base overdone so like cardboard, and it should have had zucchini and pepper...on it but they were difficult to find. Chips were large and stodgy, not crisp at all, and the salad was what looked like a bagful of rocket a sprinkling of balsamic vinegar and some parmesan shavings. I was charged £3.50 for that. My husband's burger was nice but small in a large flat looking bun. Pudding was a gluten free cheesecake which was clearly shop bought and the squirty cream came put of a tin. For a cheap pub meal it could...

First impressions, Looks a lovely welcoming old pub. Asked the barmaid for a menu at the bar, whilst see was serving which were literally in front of her! whilst the drunk was asking his table what they wanted, she said they would bring them over. Attitude stunk.. A lad came over with a menu 5 minutes later, told us to order at the bar, which isn’t a problem,, he could have been a bit more cheerful. My daughter ordered at the bar to be told there would be a wait for food, not a problem, my daughter felt like they were trying not to get us to order. Not like they were rushed of their feet. Food arrived had to get my own cutlery again not a problem again not like they were rushed off their fee...

"Wow. The the quirky situation is a fabulous first impression. The friendly greeting made us feel so welcome. The attention to hygiene and protection made us feel safe. The self explanatory simple online ordering system was fun with the opportunity to personalise your order where...possible. The service was kind, thorough and knowledgeable. The food was flavoursome, fresh and inventive. I’m a vegetarian- in a burger place and enjoyed my choices. This is by far not my first visit here. They do change things up and keep it interesting. I was with my 12 year old child and partner on a spontaneous trip after the cinema. It was the perfect fit for a grown up and fun occasion. I requested a surprise cocktail as my second drink. Mr Tim Garratt completely blew my mind. He is an expert professional craftsman mixologist extraordinaire. I don’t know this but think he reviewed my previous cocktail to give him and indication of my taste. In a shake a mysterious mesmerising delicate pink coloured cocktail in the perfect glass encased in a mystical bubble was presented to me. I was hypnotised. When the bubble burst it was the beginning not the end of this exotic experience. The fragrance was intriguing, a mist swirled out of the glass towards me. The temperature was perfectly cool and inviting. The taste was idyllic. Subtle, refreshing, delicate, alive and the best drink I have ever ever tasted. I didn’t savour it, I lived it and loved it and it was gone so quickly. I instantly ordered another. This cocktail was a grapefruit and cucumber daiquiri. To me there’s nothing finer. All 3 of us had a memorable experience and exciting different brave flavours. Everything about Slider Town Loughborough @slidertownloughbouough is individual and excellent. By the way it is bizarre coincidence that we share the same last name. I have no connection to anyone @slidertownloughborough but would be happy to!"
