"From my initial phone call to book a table for 5 people for lunch on a Wednesday, I was asked if there were any vegetarians among us, but I wasn't told that it was only a carvery on a Wednesday and that no other menu was running. When we arrived the bar service was slow, and there were limited number of large bottles of white wine available as per the wine list, so we just settled for anything that was available. (Although once in the dining room I did spot several on a rather large wine rack! My daughter asked for a Disaronno and coke, and just got a coke. The bar waitress did apologise and said that she usually worked in the restaurant. Finally when we got into the restaurant this is when we discovered that it was only a carvery. 2 members of the group had previously looked on the internet for a menu but couldn't find anything. The vegetarians were catered for with a creamy asparagus pie, but unfortunately my daughter is allergic to garlic and couldn't have hers, so maybe 2 items to chose from would be a better deal for us vegetarians, after all there were 3 of us. The selection of vegetables was great and we all loved the cauliflower cheese. The 2 meat eaters also loved their feast and said that the meat was cooked very well. On request we were provided with vegetarian gravy, but no one came and asked us if everything was alright, and the food wasn't that hot. We did all opt for a dessert, and the Rocky Road Cheesecake was delicious, however, the Tropical Fruit Sundae was a bit basic with the use of tinned fruit cocktail. We were asked if we required drink refills or coffees. As there were no menus/information about, it was hard to work out the prices and we were all pleasantly surprised that the desserts came in with the carvery price of £9 again, we couldn't see any information anywhere to tell us this, and if you hadn't had a dessert (or a coffee which is counted as a dessert you might feel a little hard done by. I think the key to our experience, and indeed this review, is the lack of information, but the carvery itself is good value for money and worth a try."

Visiting Family in the village, so thought we would come here for Sunday Lunch. The Carvery is the only option and I found it pretty average. Although you get plenty of food, the meat was a little fatty in places and the vegetables were not the hottest! Puddings were good and overall the service was ok.

My husband took me out for tea and we went to this pub. We both had lasagne, salad, and garlic bread. It was a delight to enjoy pub food that was freshly prepared in the pub kitchen. It was fantastic and couldn't be surpassed. We will definitely be returning to sample more dishes from their homemade menu.

I visited for sunday lunch the carvery was good, three choices of meats and plenty of fresh veg. The pudding i had was a chocolate and rasberry pud but know rasberries in sight. The conservatory where we ate was so hot and uncomfortable, there was an air con unit fitted but was not switched on , would not visit again whilst weather is hot.

The Carvery at the Golden Lion is one of the best in the area. We love our meals there. Lisa does a very good job, often under stress, overseeing the kitchen , training new staff, and doing the carvery, ably assisted sometimes by her mum. Can't wait for our next meal there. Guess you cannot please all of the people all of the time, but in all the years we have been going our meals have been brilliant.I Thankyou for my birthday treat!!!

Not being a fan of carveries, my wife chose this restaurant and I was a bit hesitant. However, I was pleasantly surprised - the three choices of meats were cooked beautifully, the vegetables were well-cooked and presented nicely. The cauliflower cheese was outstanding and the Yorkshire puddings were delicious. We were too full for dessert. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant is accessible for disabled individuals. We are looking forward to our next visit. The added bonus was that everything was served piping hot.

The service at this restaurant was extremely lacking. We had to specifically request for our dessert order to be taken as the staff seemed uninterested. When we inquired about more broccoli and were met with a rude "NO", no alternative was offered. The Pimms trifle was very disappointing and when we brought it up with the owner, we were simply told that it was meant to be that way. The cream and custard were unset and not fresh. The chef at the carvery could benefit from some customer service training. The vegetarian option was also not properly cooked.

Small village pub with restaurant in sort of conservatory. Table booked for 1pm but had to wait for table to become available due to a large group in previously. Had drinks at bar until taken to table at 1.40pm. Went straight to the Carvery where there was a choice of 3 meats and I had Gammon that was cooked to perfection and worth waiting for. Assortment of vegetables including large Yorkshire’s and Chipolatas. Had Rhubarb and apple lattice pie for afters with ice cream. Must say food was 5 star and freshly cooked, service and friendliness of staff excellent. Value for money will definitely return again, but book a table for 12noon.

We have been here for Sunday carvery on numerous occasions found the food to be of a high quality. The Golden Lion is one of the best carveries I have ever been to. The service is great and there is a friendly atmosphere. On this occasion, one of our party had a bit of a turn and was feeling unwell. Lisa, the owner landlady, could not have been more helpful. She was absolutely brilliant, and did everything she could to help while we were waiting for an ambulance. She found out that there were a group of first responders, a nurse, a fireman waiting to eat, who came to our aid. I couldn’t possibly praise the Golden Lion enough for everything they did for us. I’m sure we’ll be back again soon f...

Visited here for the Sunday Carvery, with a Booking for 17 people, we had just been to Spalding for Rememberance Sunday Service, we were all cold and hungry, pleasant welcome on arrival, seating area near the bar where we ordered drinks, chatted away for a while, then were taken into the Restaurant. Choice of meats Turkey Gammon and Beef, all the trimmings the Chipolatas were exceptional, lush Gravy, condiments on the table including Horseradish and Cranberry Sauce, there was no pressure to rush, the young Ladies were attentative to our needs. We all thoroughly enjoyed our Carvery, only one of us had enough room left for Desert, which also looked lovely. I believe the cost was £9.95 for the...

"We've been here a couple of times before and it's been great, however our latest visit was not a great experience. Portions were small, presentation wasn't anything special, looked like meals I could of in nocked up myself as a quick tea at home, nothing special at all, certainly didn't look like a restaurant dining experience. Also, never come across a restaurant that stipulates on the menu if you want steak they need 48 hours notice! And even if they do, they should tell people when they book in as we had 2 of our party very disappointed on the night. The whole dining experience was also ruined by a group of loud, drunk locals sitting in the dining area and talking and swearing at the top of their voices so we couldn't even hear ourselves having a conversation. If people have paid for a dining experience no matter how bad that was, they should not have to put up with a table full of loud, swearing locals who were just there for the drink, keep the two things separate! Really dark and dingy in the restaurant, we struggled to read the menu due to how badly lit it was. The waitress started the evening by telling us what wasn't available off the menu, which in itself seemed odd at the beginning of the weekend to of already run out of so much. Needless to say this one bad experience overshadows previous good ones, it looks like the place has gone down hill, we won't be back! Must say though this is by no means a reflection of the staff they were lovely, it's on the owners!"
