"Having recently moved into Fleckney we were in search of our new local. Didn't take long to find the Golden shield. Great place with fantastic friendly staff, Stacey, the landlady, makes you feel like you're part of the family.. (starts to pour without asking..not sure if that's a good or bad thing ha! folks about are very friendly. So, we decided to try their Sunday lunch.....if you haven't tried it yet..what are you waiting for? Food is excellent and hot! We tried the beef and lamb, succulent and plenty of it with seasonal veg and lashings of gravy. Rhubarb and custard with ice cream and profiteroles Mmmmmmmm!!! Finished with filter coffee and cream and mints. No cooking, no washing up and no breaking the bank. Cannot recommend it enough. Book today!!"

An ok-ish kinda place. Good for stopping off with your pup for a pint as they're dog-friendly : Nice beer garden.

Kian was an exceptional waiter, he was friendly and welcoming at our table. I would highly recommend him - be sure to ask for Kian.

We stopped by for a drink after a fantastic shopping trip. The service was outstanding. Michelle, the very pleasant bartender working tonight, was polite, friendly, and chatty. The waiter, known as 'Grandad', delivered our drinks to our table without spilling a drop. We will definitely be returning. View menu

Four of us all had different meals which were all fantastic. My steak was the best I have had in years, perfectly done and melted in my mouth. The garlic mushrooms were heavenly ! If I lived closer I would visit frequently. Friendly staff and enough light to see what you are eating for once ! Highly recommended.

We stopped for dinner on our way back from a week in Derbyshire. As a family of four, we all ordered different dishes and everything was cooked perfectly with generous portions. My husband said it was the best peppercorn sauce he had ever tasted! Stacey, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend dining at Beaus at the Golden Shield.

We visited the Golden Shield on a canal holiday with friends. It was about 15 minutes walk across the fields but well worth the trip. There was a good choice of real ales including Ghost ship and Landlord which are particular favourites of our party. The food was a cut above normal pub grub and offered an extensive menu. I had the moules marinieres and sirloin steak and both were good. Salad and vegetables were also provided. An added bonus was a performance by the Leicester Morris Men. Service was efficient and friendly View menu

A cold restaurant and on mentioning this the landlady became quite aggressive in her approach. No menu except on blackboards. I didn't mention regarding the quality of the food burnt garlic bread and also burnt lasagne and the chips were overly greasy as they had been cooked several times. A very dark and intimidating car park and could ideally do with a sensor light to help. The website had said cosy and I think they meant cold and unfriendly (cold atmosphere). I think that the landlady need some people skills and customer service training.

We recently visited friends in the Leicestershire area where we came across this little gem. we stopped of for some refreshments and not knowing the area that well we did not know what to expect, Well let me tell you, we had the warmest welcome from the staff who could not do enough for us, We decided to stay for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious, all fresh produce and served with a smile, and at a very competitive price. So if you like a traditional village pub, with plenty of character, and a great selection of beers, wines, soft drinks, good size car park and beer garden, this has got to be worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

"I visited my daughter and son-in-law last week and on my request they had booked a table for us on black horse on Saturday night at 1 o'clock. we arrived shortly before the pm and all four of us stood in the bar where two were served. it wasn't busy. no one told us anything until the bar was clear and then one of the ladies looked at me and I said we booked a table in my name of my daughter and she saw the bookings and said oh yes, we had table assigned and pointed into another room. there was no greeting no smiling, so we met our way to the table and sat there. there were no menus on the table, so I stood up to find some and someone only made their way from the other room in the direction of our table. we ordered drinks that were in themselves a task, as they had no free or dietary limmonade, so I had to go to the end for a gin with slimline tonic. then we ordered four different meal times. I ordered a vegetarian curry in naanbrot and when it finally came, I was so disappointed because the naanbrot was burned and the curry was cold on the outside, so I asked them to take it back. the waitress asked if I wanted to order something else and I went back. my daughter then shared some of her meals with me, who were chicken pupils. they were coated in a teig that was extremely fat. the menu does not seem to come out of any meal with fresh vegetables, everything seemed to come with chips and draughts, even the Steak-Mahl came only with chips and draughts, no mushrooms, tomatoes, wobble rings or something. I wasn't impressed. for a pub that wants good reviews, I think they have lost the property. the customer service is everything and fresh vegetables is essential. I'm sorry to be the bearer worse, but we won't come back."
