"the environment was beautiful, as was the waiting staff. there were only two vegan options salt and pepper mushrooms with boiled rice or vegetables with boiled rice, both came with Chinese curry sauce, which I did not have a fan of. after I had asked if it came, on the side what it did, I went with salt and pepper mushrooms. Unfortunately it was very embarrassing, it was literally burned mushrooms with raw chopped garlic, a little raw green pfeffer and a bit earlyning wobble. no other spice, so I'm not sure where the salt and the pfeffer were in it. the curry sauce was very lumpy and it was served with long chalkshops. I have been vegan for 16 years, so I had many vegan options on non- vegan sites, some of which were terrible! but it is 2022, and many now offer amazing choice, so to offer what was essentially a plate of mushrooms and rice was a huge drop. especially since this and a softdrink costs £16. there was no dessert option, and a starter that was wooden and flat brot. I ate it and I didn't give a feedback at that time, I was with friends together and I didn't want to have any pleasure. I understand that the clientele is not mainly vegan, but there are many cost-effective dishes that can be spun on the hand without something special with objects. we also like to have delicious food that the salt and pepper mushrooms could make a little more effort. a shame."

We had great service from Yam and the food was delicious. The suet pudding was a particular stand out on the menu.

I have visited The Grey Mare for the second time and each time the young lady staff were extremely attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Went today for my furthers 80th, of the 6 adults for the meal the kitchen managed to provide his meal a good 10 mins after the other 5 plates, if I said the service today was poor I am being kind. I have been numerous...times before and was all good, I don’t know if today was an off day or not, but based on today won’t be dashing back to find out.

This would have been a 5 star review as we were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to our table. Three of the meals were spot on and the recommendation from our Server was very good indeed. Unfortunately the rump steak was a little overcooked...and yes, we should have complained at the time but we were short of time and didn't want to spoil and otherwise enjoyable time.

My wife and her cousin went to the restaurant on a Sunday and were immediately asked what they wanted to eat, without even being given a chance to look at the menu. They felt rushed as three different waitresses came by while they were still eating, asking them to finish up quickly. One waitress even swore at them, which made them feel uncomfortable. It was not a pleasant experience overall, as it seemed like the staff cared more about getting money than ensuring customer satisfaction. They do not plan to go back.

Having recently relocated from Kent to Lancashire and having previously owned a restaurant, days out and sampling the local pubs/restaurants has been an experience. Today visiting the Grey Mare was exceptional. Excellent service where the staff actually knew the menu! This is rare but good...training is obvious. The food was the best we have sampled in the area and will definitely return and recommend. Very reasonable pricing given catering costs at present. The restaurant is well sited with magnificent views and very pleasant atmosphere inside. I cannot recommend or praise this restaurant enough. As catering review I grade this very high.

I usually love this restaurant, but today I was very disappointed. The selection of roasts was limited, with no chicken or turkey available by 2pm, and no roast beef either. The only options were roast lamb or a special chicken burger. I opted for the roast lamb, but when it arrived, it was pulled instead of roasted, and not to my liking. The vegetables and potatoes that came with it were fine. It was supposed to be my choice for my birthday, but it was not as expected. I believe that running out of roast meats by 2pm is a sign of poor management, and the lack of variety in white meat options was disappointing. Overall, my experience was very disappointing.

We decided to surprise my mum for her 93rd birthday with lunch at The Grey Mare. I called before Christmas to book the table of 8, explaining that my mum may be in her wheelchair. This was no problem for them. A couple of days...ago, we upped the numbers to 10, and they rearranged the tables to make this booking work. They were ready for us and made us so welcome. 2 of our party were a little late, but we didn't feel pressured to order, etc. When we did order, they amended some of the menu to fit our requirements. We had a vegan in the party, and there were options for them too. The food was great, and everyone was pleased with their choices. They even found a candle for mums dessert and sang...

A passing find on our way to Rawtenstall, lots of cars on the carpark. On our return we stopped, the pub restaurant seems to be the middle of nowhere and is situated on a hill with views down the valley to Blackburn. We were...given a warm welcome and shown to our table. Then out came the menus, I chose Black pudding scotch egg on a bed of crushed peas and my partner chose Celeriac soup as starters, both were excellent my scotch egg was a meal in itself. Mains I went off piste for me and chose the 10 oz steak with chips, I’m always cautious with steak because it can be tough, chewy and gristly. This steak was fabulous, served with baby vine tomatoes and a large field mushroom , well cooked m...
