"The food here is delicious! However I 'm not sure if there was a staff shortage issue or something but most of the staff seemed flustered and had other priorities. The biggest issue for my was that we had hoped to have a nice early dinner before going to a comedy show and we were placed in a loud directly under a very loud speaker. The stools at our table were basically the same height as the table which would have been fine if we had only been drinking. We asked who I assume was the manager if we could have different chairs and he said it 's busy we don 't have anymore chairs, we 're an Irish pub He did manage to get us one chair and as one group left we were able to swap the second stool for another. On a whole, it wasn 't the worst dining experience but for 2 people with and 80 quid bill it would have been nice not to have felt like an inconvenience. A real shame as the food is top notch but maybe give it a miss if you 're wanting a bit more of a dining experience rather than a quick bite."

Food was delicious. Service not 100% seemed to rush us when clearing drinks away.

Ordered 4 meals only 2 came out. We waited another 30 minutes for the other 2 meals. No bill given and no receipt for card payment. View menu

Table booked for food for 5.45 to be told kitchen wasn’t serving any food. Eventually got menus after I insisted I booked the table for dinner only to be rushed and told to hurry up and order. Shocking service with a waiter who clearly needs more training

The worst service we have ever had. When food was served we were asked if we wanted cutlery and sauces. Never came after asking the staff three times. Sat in our booked table and ignored for 30 minutes. Honestly the worst service we’ve ever had. Do not book this place!

Been here a few times before, but this visit was the worst. The service was appalling despite it not being busy at all. It felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. The food was quite nice but very over priced. £14.95 for a burger chips! Will think twice before booking again View menu

Portions very small. Side dishes came 15 minutes after main was served. Desert was served 15 -20 minutes after it was ordered. We had to go to the bar ourselves to get a drink. We were told we wouldn't be charged for sides as service was so bad. Once desert was eaten we were presented with the bill. To be honest I was glad to leave. I have eaten in the main bar area before and it was grand however I would not recommend The Jailhouse.

Only serving light bits to fit their cocktail bar optics...... I would be more concerned with footfall than optics right now. Optics are an empty bar with little atmosphere and overpriced, poor food. Place was pretty dead and food was shocking. For £9 I received four pathetic little squid rings and a load of day old lettuce. Two pints somehow cost £11.60 and staff couldn't wait to get the bill paid, as we sat over our drinks chatting at the end of lunch someone appeared on my shoulder asking how we wanted to pay........ not like there was a queue waiting...... Won't be back.

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."
