"We visited on Sunday the 3rd of Oct 2021 for a family lunch and sat down at 2:15. We were nicely welcomed by we presume the Landlord Land Lady made to feel most welcome. There appeared to be some breakdown in comms between the kitchen front of house as we ordered 2 beef lunches one lamb only to be told 5-10 mins later that there was no longer any beef. There was a reasonable wait for food and it turned up and looked and tasted lovely, however after reading several reviews we were left disappointed with only one small dish of vegetables between 3 of us, I had to go and ask for some more vegetables. Then the comms issue reared up again they brought out two correct desserts and one wrong again. It was taken away to be replaced only to be told that they had run out of that particular dessert."

Just had a great lunch with the family at this charming pub. The food was home-cooked and delicious.

Stayed here for work, the landlord and lady are the nicest people who would bendove backward to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The food is excellent, the rooms are clean and the locals are friendly. Thanks for your hospitality View menu

CHECK THEIR WEBSITE for their Menu and the times when available ! Miss being able to go down there though as I am an oldie and so very much in Lockdown.

We visited today for Sunday lunch...just 4 of us. We ate in the bar area which was fine. However it was so cold in there and my elderly parents were freezing. Unusually cold for May but could have done with some heating. There was only one vegetarian choice. The lunches were not hot, the plates were cold, the vegetables were uncooked and overall quite tasteless. Very disappointed as my parents have been there before and enjoyed their previous meals

Visited for a Sunday lunch to celebrate family birthday. Limited choice of only chicken or beef. Beef arrived cold, chicken sparse and appeared to be fillets sliced up into thin pieces. Not what one would expect to be served! Overall very poorly presented and executed. Also demonstrated by lack of customers, empty tables and cold atmosphere. A great shame as this pub could be so much better…….. with a bit more passion and investment! This pub would attract returning visitors. Will certainly not be returning. Advise to avoid for Sunday lunch!!! View menu

My wife I called in whilst out on a walk with 3 dogs for a light lunch and a real ale. They were very welcoming and the dogs could come in with us. We only had sandwiches but they were excellent and we decided to book a table for the evening when our son would be with us. We could have taken the dogs in the evening but decided to leave them at the cottage where we were staying but there were others there. We had 3 different main courses and 3 different desserts and they were excellent and beautifully presented. The icecream is homemade. We'd certainly go again when next in the area

As a very Senior Citizen who has lived Locally for many years I am a regular visitor to Marshfield with friends where fortunately in these difficult times there are still two excellent Pubs. However since the fairly recent arrival of new Landlords/ 'Publicans Pete and Jayne Olsen very well known in the area The Lord Nelson has become even more welcoming and to a much wider age range of ages of customers. They offer a wide choice of really excellent food particularly their Sunday Roasts as well as their Fish and Pub Grub . There is also always a choice of about 20 Home Cooked Stone Baked Pizza 's. whether to eat in house or as Take Aways . I do suggest Booking and to check on times.

"Went for an impromptu meal with her indoors, as this was a local pub we've not been in for a long time we thought will pop in. Greeted by an over enthusiastic bar person who was dragging out the empties from the night before, ordered a couple of drinks and we sat down with the menu's, after perusing the menu we were ready to order, at the same time we were ready a regular couple walked in and sat at there regular table and oredered there regular meal, but the regular gentleman actually wanted an extra sausage with his sausage and chips, well! The kerfuffle this caused was astronomical, this conversation went on for Many many minutes, my wife and I was desperately trying to catch her attention to have another drink, eventually my wife went to the bar and waited, we got served eventually. Then our food came out of the kitchen, we went for the light bites as we were in a snacky mood, Chicken strips Mozzarella bites Chips with curry sauce and nachos. We never got the nachos as there was no guacamole BTW Chips came out which were actually fries, covered in this sauce, gross, then we had 3 chicken strips with no garnish £4.95 £1.63 each Then 4 mozzarella bites came out, no, nothing else just 4 mozzarella bites, £4.95 £1.24 each. So if you want have your pants pulled down and be robbed of your hard earned cash then this is the place to go, as for me and my wife we won't be. We did mention the poor quality and value for money but it was brushed under the dirty carpet and she was going to feed our comments back to the kitchen."

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
