The Miners Standard

This is the best place in the Peak District to enjoy a pint and delicious food with incredible staff. I highly recommend it, 5 out of 5.

Lovely local pub just a few minutes walk from our holiday cottage, busy with locals and visitors. Serve basket meals Friday and Saturday, we had the scampi and Cornish pasty with chips both tasty and enjoyed with a couple of glasses of wine. If we return to Winster for a weekend break again will definitely be visit again.

I visited this restaurant twice and had a great experience both times. The food was excellent, the beer selection was top-notch, the service was outstanding, and the accommodations were great. Camped here in October for two nights. Tent area is slipped (damn you Peak District), and was soft underfoot due to recent heavy rainfall. Bar food and drinks were excellent, along with two fires to warm up frozen campers. We managed to park our motorbikes inside the locked gate on a gravel area (grass too soft for this late in the year). Great place to base your visit to the Peaks. Recommended. Food: 5

Would have rated it higher if I wasn 't greeted by local drunken yobs in the doorway. Only went in for some food. Tripped over the step on the way in only to be heckled by the local joker. Then waited at the bar to ask if there was a restaurant. Comedian overheard me and started laughing at us, saying restaurant?! You must be joking . Horrific atmosphere. During our visit to Winster, we stayed at a charming cottage and wanted to sample the local cuisine. The service at the restaurant was excellent and the food was delicious. My teenage son, who has a big appetite, thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo burger. I also thought the fish dish was quite tasty. I would highly recommend trying the buffalo burger. The prices ranged from £10–20 per person and I would give the food a 5-star rating. View menu

Staying the night on the campsite, I decided to have the dinner in the pub. It is a cozy and welcoming place. I ordered the Steak and Ale pie and I was not dissapointed, the portion sizes are huge, it was also one of the best pies I have had. The staff behind the bar and serving the food are all friendly and attentive. On a side note I had breakfast in the recently opened cafe and this did not dissapoint as well, portion sizes dont stop at dinner.

DISASTROUS! The service was non-existent. A group of 14 of us had pre-booked for a family meal and had to pre-order. We arrived on time and were shown to our table. However, after an hour and 15 minutes, we still had not received any food despite being reassured multiple times that it was on its way. Eventually, only one vegetarian meal arrived and it was cold. Frustrated, we decided to leave. To add insult to injury, one of our group witnessed two staff members high-fiving because our large party was leaving and it would not be as busy for them.

Having read the reviews before we went we were looking forward to our meal. Unfortunately we did not have the same experience as most others. We ordered quite quickly as we had two children with us. The orders for the two tables behind us were mixed up, the one to the side had a child’s meal brought the child was already eating his meal! After about 45 minutes I asked when we’d be served our food (as by then the tables around us had all got their food). The lady behind the bar went and checked in the kitchen who told her our food had already been sent!! Definitely not. We then had to explain our order and it did arrive 15 minutes later.
