"I am visiting from the United States and I love the PEAK DISTRICT. The pub is delightful and the staff and locals were very welcoming. I ordered a rare sirloin steak and it was cooked perfectly, I couldn't find any faults with it. I also had a reasonably priced cheese board with a fantastic selection. What was meant to be just a meal and a pint turned into a longer stay, so I ended up walking back to my bed and breakfast in the village. The owners of the pub joined our group, which I thought was a nice touch. This is definitely a must-visit place, I promise you won't be disappointed."

This traditional pub has everything you could want. The landlady is exceptional, super friendly, and very knowledgeable about beer. Make sure to stop in for a pint or two. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This restaurant was a great discovery. The Sunday roast was outstanding and the staff were excellent. The barmaid was incredibly patient with my dog. I even had the chance to meet David Icke here. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 View menu

Camped here in October for two nights. Tent area is slipped (damn you Peak District), and was soft underfoot due to recent heavy rainfall. Bar food and drinks were excellent, along with two fires to warm up frozen campers. We managed to park our motorbikes inside the locked gate on a gravel area (grass too soft for this late in the year). Great place to base your visit to the Peaks. Recommended. Food: 5

Would have rated it higher if I wasn 't greeted by local drunken yobs in the doorway. Only went in for some food. Tripped over the step on the way in only to be heckled by the local joker. Then waited at the bar to ask if there was a restaurant. Comedian overheard me and started laughing at us, saying restaurant?! You must be joking . Horrific atmosphere. We left immediately and went elsewhere. Atmosphere: 1

During our visit to Winster, we stayed at a charming cottage and wanted to sample the local cuisine. The service at the restaurant was excellent and the food was delicious. My teenage son, who has a big appetite, thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo burger. I also thought the fish dish was quite tasty. I would highly recommend trying the buffalo burger. The prices ranged from £10–20 per person and I would give the food a 5-star rating. View menu

The food was fine, beef was tasty and tender, pastry nice and crumbly, the double cooked chips were good , plentiful and hot, the peas were from frozen. The beer was excellent, from a local brewery. The pub was pretty empty yo begon with, but it soon filled up and the atmosphere came to life. I think I might have gone on a bad day; lots of other reviews say how friendly and warm the staff are, that wasn't my experience, but we all have off days don't we.

We had an amazing night at the Miner Standard. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious. The staff were excellent, and the bartender was very courteous, even helping us to our table with our drinks. Our meal was hot and presented beautifully, so kudos to the kitchen staff. If you're looking for a charming old-fashioned pub with a great atmosphere and delicious food, the Miner Standard is the place to go. They also have a Peak District author who frequents the pub, and I hear that many of the characters in the books are local. Definitely worth a visit, you won't be disappointed.
