"Quaint pub restaurant with good service and great food. I booked this for my partners Birthday on Friday. Good range of beers, wines and other drinks, Loved the home made food, great to see something other than burgers. I have recently been diagnosed with a dairy intolerance so the chickpea curry was absolutely delicious with rice and popadums. My partner had the steak and unicorn pie, the unicorn being an ale they sell …we laughed with the friendly manager as I’d thought it might be horse meat! The pie was proper home made not processed and the steak was melt in the mouth , absolute quality and fresh veg too . Nice atmosphere and a quirky range of Toby jugs , must be hundreds of them and just fun looking at them especially the old logos. Friendly service and all in all pleased with our choice. Will visit again."

Had a fabulous lunch today, my wife had the lambs liver and bacon, and I had the beefburger with stilton cheese. Both meals were excellent.

The Crispin knows how to do a proper lunch! It’s so unusual nowadays to find a pub that serves fresh vegetables beautifully cooked but my liver and my husband’s thick crust steak pie came with cauliflower in cheese sauce, chunky carrots and French beans. The best we’ve had for ages.

Went for our sons 16th birthday. Fire was lit, great atmosphere and the food was amazing. My only ask would be more vegetarian options, I really wanted a pie but it was game rabbit, I asked for halloumi kebab but it was out of stock, then quiche but it was bacon. We all loved the food we had, great service.

We had a lovely lunch today. Good portions of fish and pie, accompanied by a great tasting cider, and followed by huge Bakewell puddings and ice cream. Staff were friendly and helpful and didn’t seem to mind that our big dogs sprawled over the floor taking up space (we did offer to sit in the beer garden! . Highly recommend and will definitely eat here again.

Pre booked table for 1 only earlier same day. Busy on arrival then offered alternative comfy seating area for dinner . Food and service excellent, nice atmosphere and happy staff too. Particularly welcome were the non standard alcohol free beer and lager for which I was grateful. How good? I pre booked again before leaving for my next business tour. Thanks and well done .

A Friday night and the pub was practically empty which isn't a good sign. The staff were not friendly and welcoming in any way. The food was average and the portion size large so I expect if you've spent the day hill walking it would be fine. Disappointing so we didn't stay for dessert. The Packhorse up the road was a whole different experience so go there for customer service and great food but you'll need to book as its busy!

A Sunday lunch that was tasty and substantial. We both had a decent Merlot, Gammon with all the trimmings and two scoops of ice cream for dessert. Plates were almost overflowing for the main course and the ice cream bowls topped high. A good atmosphere with some American citizens asking about the history of the establishment – which was probably older than their own Country. Good service and around £50 reasonable value for money.

I took my Mum out for lunch and we both chose the rainbow trout with prawns and caper butter. We both thought it was superb. The fish was perfectly cooked and the prawn and caper butter was a great addition. The salad was lovely and fresh and the coleslaw seemed homemade. We were both very pleased that we hardly noticed the skins on the new potatoes, which were very tasty. The ales were good and the beer garden was great for such a lovey day, with seats in sun or shade. We’ll be back!
