"Newly refurbished, so everywhere shiny and new. Pleasant contemporary decor Waitress was friendly, and cheerful I hadn't chosen a starter. Waiting time between starters being cleared away and mains being served was longer than would normally expect Chose the chicken and barley main. Meal was...well presented, plenty of chopped fresh herb to make it appear appetising. Sadly the chicken tasted bland and the accompanying wild mushroom sauce lacked depth of flavour. Absence of vegetables was a disappointment For dessert I had opted for the steamed lemon sponge pudding and custard. The sponge looked appealing, presented on a pretty glass platter and was served with a separate small jug of custard, The custard was creamy and tasty but appeared curdled. The sponge was light but not particularly lemony. I enquired whether the sponge had been microwaved as the centre was hard as though it had been microwaved for too long Pleasant enough lunch but not so enjoyable that I would rush back. My general observation was that the food looked better than it tasted. Car parking was available down on the main road. It could be difficult access via steps for anyone less mobile. Exiting car park was tricky due to the stone wall obscuring visibility of the road"

Disappointing Sunday Lunch. Starter was ok, main was poor. Didn’t bother having a pudding. The beef was served medium/rare with excess fat which in my opinion should have been removed before being plated. The Sunday Lunch consisted of 1 piece of beef, 3 potatoes, 1...carrot, 1 parsnip a bit of Savoy cabbage and a large portion of pickled red cabbage (in vinegar- from a jar Assume they must have been running out of veg? Didn’t bother ordering a pudding.

First visit to The Palfry, nice to see a menu which is a step up from the usual trendy bespoke pubs. The staff were very pleasant and helpful our main courses arrived as advised about 25 minutes after ordering as all cooked fresh. The flavours...and seasoning were well balanced, a steak, the pheasant and a cheese pie were thoroughly enjoyed as were our desserts. We sat down at 6.30 and left about 8.15. on a Wednesday. Highly recommended and we will be back.

A friend's special birthday celebration, and what a superb meal we have had. Excellent service, attentive staff, a delightful restaurant and a lovely menu. I opted for Curried Smoked Haddock bon bons as an appetiser, followed by Chicken Breast, Truffle, Crab Lincolnshire Poacher Macaroni...Cheese with wild garlic pesto. Both courses were simply delicious. I could not find room for a dessert (I thought) but the Rhubarb and Custard Pana cotta looked superb, just one of many to choose from. Excellent wine too. Eight of us dined, much praise for this restaurant. We look forward to returning.

Our friends treated us to a belated birthday treat and we were excited about trying the new restaurant. Really disappointed by the vegetarian food, especially the mushroom bourguignon, which looked and tasted like tomato pasta sauce from a jar or tinned soup. Served with mashed...potato and a tiny portion of carrots. Heard people on the next table complaining about the desserts and so we just had coffee afterwards. On a positive note the surroundings were nice and our waitress and the guy behind the bar were lovely and listened to our feedback but we won’t return until the food improves.

I felt compelled to write a review, after having spent a lovely evening at the Palfrey. I am a very keen home cook and can be quite picky! We also visited with a coeliac, who can be difficult to cater for. The staff were lovely...and welcoming, and the restaurant was cosy, and warm. I chose the mackerel, and the Hake, which were cooked to perfection, and they were served with lovely sauces. My husband had the cod, with my friends opting for the steak. The chips were delicious, and crunchy, and again the steak, and sauces were excellent. I would say that this is the best meal that I have had in Derby and would encourage anybody to give this restaurant a try. Yes there was a small delay betwee...

that was me and partner for the first time at the new venue. the decor is stunning, we were greeted by 2 beautiful young ladies and sitting on our table. we had the suppe of the day to begin what was beautiful! mains we had miso glazed pork...and chicken breast, truffle, crab lincolnshire poacher macaroni cheese and wow this was amazing! we needed one thing to choose our main thing, as the menu looked so good, but the waitress was so patient. dessert. now we went for the rhabarb and custard panna cotta, this is always a preferred choice of ours, even if they travel to the country and that was the best we had, we had hoped this will stay on the menu. additions to the chef are the presentation...
