"A very disappointing visit. Having booked in advance we arrived at the Punchbowl in good and were shown to our table straightaway. Our waitress came over, not to take our order but to advise us what was not available on the menu! No chicken (other than chicken pie), no lamb, no fish. The only items that were readily available were steak and cold ham and eggs. This on a Saturday night at A very poor show indeed. The waitress was obviously uncomfortable in having to tell us this information, nevertheless she was very attentive and our meals were served quickly. We will not be repeating our visit to the Punchbowl, we will be going to a restaurant we're you can get all that is on the menu."

The Punchbowl is a decent pub/gastropub set in the middle of nowhere but in a peaceful and what appears to be a lonely place in Sefton - nearby a graveyard

Despite being almost in the middle of nowhere in sleepy Lunt, The Punchbowl is easily one of my family's favourite places to go for a meal or to celebrate a View menu

The dining experience was pleasant, affordable, and the staff were very accommodating, especially the manager who went above and beyond to assist us. We will definitely be visiting again.

I haven't visited the Punch Bowl in a few years, but I was pleasantly surprised by the new appearance. The atmosphere was great, perfect for a gathering with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, all dressed neatly in their uniforms. However, the highlight of the evening was the food. Fresh ingredients cooked perfectly. Thank you, we will definitely return. View menu

Nice meal overall although they didn't seem to have our booking on arrival. Our table was quite small for in our party and certainly when our meals arrived on wooden boards was a bit squashed. Service was also slow and for a Thursday at the restaurant didn't seem too busy so not sure why! Food was nice although one of our party ordered medium done steak and it was very rare when it arrived. The environment was nice and seemed very clean.

This was an absolutely dreadful experience! Our Dad's birthday was supposed to be a special meal, and we didn't want to upset him and mum by complaining. The food was dreadful, the service amateurish. Food was burnt, Yorkshire puddings were simply not that, they were strange shapes of crispy batter! And as for the Tony thin slivers of pork on the pork roast, they were a complete joke! We had been here before some years ago but when I booked for the occasion, friends were telling me it had gone down the pan. How right they were. wasted......

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
