"we arrived here on Saturday at 2 o'clock and it was absolutely pouring out. hawkshead is a beautiful place, but unfortunately not if you want to park your car near the red lion. we had a heavy bag, so we ran as close as we could. about 100 meters away and ran with the bag to ask if we could leave them somewhere until we check in time at 4 o'clock. after much discussion we were allowed to leave it in the bar. there was nowhere else in the hotel, apparently, including the rooms that we have, because it was not ready yet, and no other rooms that could be there for an hour or two accomodates, and it was only left because we had caused a fight over them and it would be left to our risk. we went and parked the car in public main parking and had a coffee before we returned at 3 o'clock to keep an eye on the bag. in this phase we wished we had booked somewhere else. when we came back to the bar area, we ordered some drinks and had a very pleasant hour or so close to a beautiful fire before we went into our room. the room was beautiful. obviously recently renovated, and very nice in the did. we went to eat around 6 o'clock, and there was a great atmosphere in the bar and our food, fish and chips, steak and ale pee, then was an amazing sticky tee pudding was great. we had a few very pleasant hours in the bar and had a great night. the personal was very friendly and also very busy where I think the problem came with the bag. they simply didn't have the time, but they were very nice and very different from the first impression earlier this day. we would recommend the red lions thoroughly and we will certainly return. we had a nice night. we would also be warned to have a bag that does not weigh too much and that is easier to carry from the large parking lot. that we couldn't owe our stay at all, thank you"

We had a great friendly experience here. The staff were very helpful, the beer was local and smooth. The food just what walkers require. Well presented and tasty.

We tried 2 pubs before The Red Lion which were both full. So with slight reservations we went there. The Pub was welcoming and they showed us to a table. The Menu was varied with more traditional Pub Food. The food was well presented.. the service was good. The fish and chips a very large portion the fish was very fresh. The Rib Eye Steak was tender and tasty. We all had a very pleaant evening and agreed the food was good and our slight reservations before we went in were totally unfounded.

Stayed for the night after a hike and had dinner in the pub. Great service. Nice hearty food which was very reasonably priced. Room was clean and bed very comfortable. Few things that weren’t immaculate in the room (tiles in bathroom could do with re...grouting for example) and the sink was in the bedroom rather than the bathroom but it’s a old building (with tones of character) so you have it bear that in mind and everything was very clean. Lovely vegetarian breakfast in the morning. All in all, excellent value for money.

2 courses for around 14.99 starter was laughable and garnel, which was next to the pieces of the brote, which was saturated in oil, was rock-hard and infinity. I said the beautiful lady who collected our teller. fish cake was good for the net. young. they came at the end and asked how our meal was. I told him polite, except for the hard brot with the starter. he answered, there is nothing I can do if you say nothing! I answered, I told the young lady. he said, I am not perfect, now she should have told me! I said a good customer service would knock a few quid out of the bill. he was rude and crashed! in any case will not be back! he looked like the manager, so he won't return. I thought he w... this is a pretty good place to stay for the money and they will certainly get what they pay so if they are after all mod cons and extra comfort, then this could not be their choice. the room was clean and warm welcome. We can only check in at 4 o'clock because we have to wait until the pub is open, which was not ideal, but okay when we were there. the room was small but operable, safe ok for 1 night, but even more would have been more challenging. the television didn't work with the remote control and we had to turn on and off the television with the plug on the wall. the lights didn't work properly either because it was either all the lights on or none (the side lights didn't work when the...

what a sniff. the first impressions were not great, went in and the waitress greeted us, she seemed surprised that we had made a reservation! we were shown to our table, a man, I suppose, basil himself appeared with his nase from his mask that was very close. to the table, he greeted us, but then without saying that something has expired. he returned a minute or so later, took our drinks orders and asked if we were ready to order, but we asked to see the Allergen menu. alarmingly he asked what an allergen then one of the menus was debrised from us and back to the kitchen was lined to ask the chef what we could not have. in the meantime we called the waitress when the table was dirty and aske...
