"Stopped in yesterday with elderly parents to break up the walk down the hill. Service was first class. The lovely lady serving was so friendly and especially looked after Dad offering smaller pieces of 2 cakes cos he couldn't decide on one. My partner had fabulous pea and ham soup which was delicious and the rest of us had generous slices of yummy cakes. Coffee was great, oat milk and syrups available. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Rest. Lovely rustic but modern feel inside. Thank you"

The service was ridiculously slow. 30mins for two lattes and an orange juice. Claimed it was busy but only half full. Larger orders before and after us in the queue we’re served first. Very disappointed.

From the centre of Lincoln shopping area take the walk up the steep hill towards the cathedral. Almost at the top on the right is the aptly named “The Rest”. Comfy seats to rest you wary legs and delicious coffee too. Friendly staff and reasonable prices, recommended . View menu

Sat outside in glorious November sunshine watching the world go by while enjoying delicious plum bread and cheese! Delicious! A perfect spot to stop and rest with a coffee either on your way up or on your way down of the steep hill. The place was spotlessly clean with friendly and quick service , toilets were absolutely spotless too!

Very disappointed. The venue was lovely, a really good spot half way up Steep Hill. We had coffee and a cheese sandwich each. The sandwich was made with poor quality supermarket bread and we paid an extra 50p for about 3 rings of red onion. The young waiting staff we pleasant though. I wouldn't recommend this place, they could do so much better

This café is part of a small hotel and is very appropriately named as it is just in the right position for a break while climbing “Steep Hill”. It has a very nice terraced area with good views of the historic houses on Steep Hill and of the surrounding countryside. When we visited the service was a bit slow but we didn’t mind in the least as we were glad of the rest. View menu

Lovely little stop off on our way down steep hill. Had lunch sandwich and a slice of their delicious cake. The chees sald sandwich was really nice. The cheese was nice and tasty the salad frsh and crisp. Made with requested ingredients. A lovely pot of tea made with tea leafs.. The raspberry and blackcurrant cake was delicious so was hubbies carrot cake. Would definitely recommend.

OMG I’ve never waited so long for two bowls of soup. Clearly the lady dealing with the food isn’t a multi taster. 1.15 hr just isn’t acceptable! We were told they only have a small cubbyhole for a kitchen which I’m sure was right. Perhaps tell people they will have a long wait. The soup was good and all the good looked very appetising. So if you are happy to wait I would recommend.

"when we arrived, there was a 15 min waiting for a table for 4 people. that in my head was a good thing, and what can I say, but I was right. I go out for dinner and give a 5-star rating without being a bit generous, but in this case I don't have to be generous. this is really a 5-star evaluation site. the price is reasonable and this is reflected in the size of the drank. large but not too large and very fillable. the selection was good overall for lunch and tea and coffee selection was then expected to be bigger. simply note that no alcohol is served here, but is not needed, as the environment is excellent and the ethos of the caffe supports. eating was great and the selection of meat and vegan food was good. the face of the children on the sight of the child afternoon was one of the excitement, especially when you see the size of the cake. the burgerpatties were thin, but wide, homemade, like all food, cooked in a juicy juicy condition. the nuggets were diceed chicken pieces so quality from the beginning, batter was slightly spiced and cooked for perfection. not greasy or soggy or too much for the meat. best nuggets I've ever had. if they like cake and coffee, this is also the place for them with the sizes of the cake portions they will take a few home, and it is worth it. as they can say, we really enjoyed eating and put in a place that is modern with a classic touch that I felt relaxed and that eating fits the venue."
