"Looks very attractive from the outside, but very strange when you go in. The covid arrangements are still totally in place complete with one way system and all staff wearing masks. There was only one draft beer on tap I ordered a beef sandwich and a sherry trifle, a pint and a pot of tea for one. At £5.50 for the sandwich I expected the bread to be fresh: it wasn’t. It came with a small lettuce leaf, slice of tomato and a shaving of onion and carrot as a ‘garnish’. Presumably In a vain attempt to justify the exorbitant price. The bread had a miserly scraping of margarine, but in its favour was cut in triangles! The sherry trifle was tasteless and appeared to lack any sherry flavour at all. £18 later I was thinking that I wouldn’t be visiting again."

First time visiting here for Sunday dinner. Very nice dinner, friendly staff, good sized portions and will definitely return again.

Visited with my children to use the pool table, felt unwelcome and the staff kept looking over the balcony checking up on us. This is my second visit, the first was similar but with friends.

Oh dear what a hostile and unwelcoming place. e.g. No one said hello to our grandson e.g. You cant jhave your five pound deposit back for cues unless you get the white ball and chalk as well. Am 70 but treated like a 15 year old who would steal the white ball. Woman owner totally ignores you and struts around the place like a camp commandant. View menu

I visited The Rising Sun last night and had a fantastic evening. The staff were very friendly, particularly Aleisha who went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect with a big smile. We tried the Friday Fish menu and it was amazing - well cooked, tasty, and hot. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We also met some nice people and will definitely be returning.

My partner and I were looking for a new venue for a weekday lunch. We visited the Rising Sun, Rogerstone and found the staff to be both, warm and friendly. The service and food was excellent and we would certainly visit again and recommend it to family and friends. It was nice to see that they are still taking steps to reduce the risk of getting Covid which was reassuring.

I contacted the restaurant today to make a reservation for a meal later this week. I requested to be seated in a quieter area due to my father undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer. The response I received was very disappointing. The man I spoke to treated me poorly, as if I had asked for something unreasonable. He told me they couldn't provide a separate room and couldn't guarantee how busy they would be. The attitude and lack of empathy shown towards my situation was shocking. It's safe to say I will not be dining at this pub, even if it was free. View menu

From the telephone call to reserve a table, to leaving the premises, the staff were so friendly and helpful ;the restaurant has an informal and family atmosphere . I took my elderly Mother for lunch and we were made so welcome and received excellent service. We both opted for the smaller plate but portions were very generous as was the trifle we had for dessert. The steak/mushroom pie and lamb chops were delicious and the whole meal reminded me of “dinners from my childhood “. Nothing fancy, but wholesome tasty food and plenty of it. We will definitely return, when I am next ,visiting family.

The hot lunch I ordered turned out to be cold, despite a nice portion of beef. Unfortunately, the meal was swimming in vegetable water and the Yorkshire pudding was disappointingly small. This was definitely one of the worst meals I have ever had, and even though I complained, the staff showed no concern. I would not recommend this place to anyone, as I struggled to find any redeeming qualities. The only positive aspect was the quiet and pleasant outdoor area at the back of the pub, which would be nice to sit in on a sunny day. However, I would advise against ordering any meals that require effort or attention, as it seems lacking in this restaurant.
