"We went to the Shieling twice when we were staying in Poolewe. Firstly just for a snack and drink after a walk however ended up having soup and a sandwich which was very generous in portion size “he doesn’t do small “ the waitress said laughing. I had mushroom soup which was delicious and my partner had the Cullen Skink which she declared the best ever! As it was so good we booked to return with our friends for lunch on the Friday, we all had fish and chips or scampi all of which were really fresh and tasty. The staff are really helpful and friendly and service was great. I would definitely recommend the Shieling if you are in the area but booking ahead especially in high season and weekends are a must."

Cappuccino is a must have! Friendly staff. Lovely view of the bay and gorgeous to watch the rain and storm come through. Good Scottish good and produce to buy.

Arrived later for a lunch but were able to get a table. A few Gluten free Options including Haddock Chips. Service was good and food delicious, portions were huge!

Appalling service. Can’t comment on the food because despite sitting for the best part of 40 minutes, no one took an order as apparently the kitchen was too busy ! View menu

Where did this wonderful chef learn to cook ? He works hard and you have to book ahead and observe the opening times. The food is well worth it and we try to visit as much as we can. Please be open for 2021 when we hope to visit Scotland.

This is a lovely underrated restaurant with excellent friendly service. No pretensions, just hearty homemade meals with super fresh local produce. Just one warning, the portions are big. You won’t leave hungry. But you might leave with a doggy bag.

We came to Gairloch for some lunch and were very lucky to have chosen The Shieling. The food was exceptional. Very generous portions. The children loved their menu and the adults had lots to choose from. The service was extremely friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Would definitely recommend a stop at this little gem. We had a really good meal here. Cullen skink is the best I've had anywhere and I've had a lot. Fish and chips is really excellent as was the sirloin steak, perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and helpful. After lunch we had coffees in the very comfortable lounge and a piece of delicious homemade almond slice. We will most definitely be back. The menu is comprehensive with good vegetarian choices and gluten free options. They only open for lunch which is a shame but worth factoring this into your plans.

Always book ahead to avoid disapointment, because it so popular with locals. 6 of us had a family lunch and it was perfect. The waitresses Jackie and Laura were so professional and friendly. My cullen skink soup was delicious. We love the food here. Thank you Donald and staff. Guaranteed a warm welcome every time. You have to book first as this place gets busy. Do not expect to walk in and get a table for meal without booking because it is popular. This restaurant is an asset to this area. The coffees and cakes are great too.
