"We dined tonight for a friend’s special birthday. On entering the hotel it was welcoming, warm and the bar area had a great ambience. I know the hotel have new chefs the menu was great (definitely recommend the burger) all three courses were delicious. The waiting staff were first class and I would highly recommend a visit if you are on the Isle of Skye"

"Dinner at 8pm on a Thursday. Staff were friendly enough but had to wait around 40 minutes for the food. With a 5 and 2 year old this was a challenge. There was no mention of specials, so got a steak. Very oniony, which I didn't mind but was a little on the cold side. Only noticed the specials board after ordering and getting up for the restroom. Would have loved to have gotten the scallops instead had I known."

"I've been eating a couple of lunches today and bought a fresh scrap sandwich and a drink. the choice here is just great and the sandwich was prepared for me while I waited. it was absolutely delicious! here is a fantastic selection of freshly prepared meals. relish also has a seating area and located directly on the road, I don't need an excuse to dive back soon! fantastic. I could resist the fresh cream cake this time, but I don't think I would do it again, it looked amazing! thank you all."

"We visited on a cold, wet Monday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This is our 4th year visiting the beautiful misty Isle, and needless to say, we absolutely love Skye. The restaurant was welcoming, warm, and relaxed yet totally professional. We had a trio of fish and a blue cheese salad as starter's followed by fish and chips. I realise this doesn't sound overly exciting, but both courses were absolutely amazing. My beautiful wife and I can honestly say we haven't ever had fish and chips that were as good, fresh, and thoroughly enjoyable for many a year. To sum up our amazing experience, we have booked again for later this week and could possibly have the same again. Thank you to all."

"We called to book at this restaurant and the staff let us know they were booked for the evening. We were tired and hungry from a long day of travel and touring, and I asked them for walk in recommendations, which they kindly provided. While I was looking into those options, the staff at Red Skye called back and had a cancellation. We hurried over and were warmly greeted by the two kindest servers we've ever encountered. We enjoyed appetizers of scallops and cullen skink soup, then main courses of Langoustines and Mushroom Risotto. My husband and I shared all of the dishes, and topped the meal off with a rhubarb/berry crumble with vanilla ice cream. The servers also provided friendly conversation and assisted us in the best route to our next stop. By far, one of the best meals and definitely the kindest, most fun staff of any restaurants we dined in. Highly recommend, but book ahead!"

"The restaurant sits close to the Gairloch Museum which we had just visited. Family have been to the restaurant before and it came highly recommended, I can see why.It sits on the main road with great views across the water. There's a spacious car park and seating outside. Inside there's plenty of tables in a traditional setting. I imagine post pandemic it's been difficult to get back into the swing of things, if that was the case it didn't show.The service was perfect. You're not going to get fast food turnaround on orders, but then you aren't going to get fast food quality food. The fact that things are cooked to order is explained and I can't say I felt we had to wait long at all.The menu offered a good selection and catered well for vegetarians. We were all very happy with our choices. I had the falafel burger, one of the best I have tried.So, location, service and food perfect!"

"Excellent dinner! I guessed as we parked that the food might be good because there was some serious engineering around the kitchen—always good when a restaurant invests in the kitchen as well as the dining area The service was very efficient (we were finished within an hour because we had no room for desserts). The dining area was a nice space, with bold colours and gentle music. Everything seemed clean Our food was delicious. I chose one of the vegetarian options, and it was very tasty. I stole a sneaky forkful of Husband’s pork belly pie, and that was good too. My only regret was that we were too full for pudding. Maybe next time."

"The food was really nice. Completely recommendable. But the costumer service needs to be better. We’ve been hosted by a guy with grey hair that has all the will to not serve us. First he says that was full, can happen, and has not less than 30 minutes to have a free table, thing that wasn’t true because a table was already charged and leaving. After that, he told us that has no waiting list and we can’t wait inside because has no waiting area. Outside was raining and I was w my two grandparents. 3 minutes after that table left and if we didn’t insist to stay inside, we would be waiting outside. After that, a tall lady serve us, that was warm and kind. I would come back, but definitely dodge that guy"

"On a wet and windy Saturday morning four of us were in need of hearty breakfast. We weren't disappointed. Virtually every eatery in Portree was closed for some reason. As we trudged around town through the wind and rain, the unmistakable smell of fried bacon filled our nostrils. We followed our noses and were led to The Caledonian Cafe. Not long after sitting at a table, we were warmly greeted by one of the staff. She took our order large quantities of fried food, tea and Irn Bru. The drinks soon arrived, followed by our fried breakfasts. Now, I do like a fried breakfast, and this one was exceptional. All of the food arrived without any grease on the plate. The fried egg was perfect slightly frilly and crispy around the edges with a lovely runny yolk. I'd never had a tattie scone or a Lorne sausage before both were delicious. We left the cafe more than satisfied with full bellies and smiles on our faces.... despite the driving rain!"

"We've visited here a few times years ago but not since the pandemic; thankfully, it is still just as nice as it always was. We were here for lunch on a sunny Saturday and although it was busy we were seated quickly and didn't have to wait long for our food. All of us really enjoyed our meals, which were a pork chorizo burger, a spicy bean burger, and a jacket potato with cheese. There's lots of choice on the menu and it was all really tasty with generous portions. Reasonably priced, too. There's a good amount of seating inside (although it's clearly popular, so may be worth booking if you're coming a long way) and on dry/warm days there's also some tables outside. We'll definitely be back again next time we're in the area."

"I had lunch here on the first day of the restaurant opening amazing seafood fresh off local trawlers. As it was the first day the staff served the seafood in takeaway boxes which I loved! The monkfish had come that day off the restaurant owners family boat. Fantastic food the best we had on our trip around the Scottish Isles! "My friend and I stopped here for some quick lunch whilst on our trip around the Isle of Skye, so we didn't check out the upstairs which has an art gallery, but you could see some paintings on the wall on the ground floor where they serve the food. We both ordered the soup of the day which comes with bread. On this particular day it was leek and potato soup, which was mostly smooth with little chunks of potatoes, and it came with 2 slices of bread, one was brown bread and the other was corn bread, and a bit of butter on the side. This soup exceeded expectations — it was very yummy and the bread was fluffy. We also had 2 slices of cake, a coffee cake and a peanut butter cake. They were OK, but the peanut butter one was crumbly and the coffee one didn't taste as much of coffee as I'd wish. We believe most of the flavour was in the icing and not as much on the cake itself. As for the place, it was quite big and well decorated. They have a disabled bathroom that works as the women's bathroom, but I couldn't see a baby changing facility even though they had a corner where kids could play. They also don't have Wi-Fi available. But they do have a quite big car park. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Beware, it's difficult to see the sign post from the main road, so you need to be on the lookout for it."

"Disappointing Experience: Avoid This Restaurant Review: My recent visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. My family and I were shocked by the disrespectful treatment we received. We were forced to order more food than we wanted because of their rigid system, which mandates each guest to order both a main course and a starter. When we questioned this policy, the staff member became rude and dismissive, even stating that the hotel's only goal is to make money, not to serve its customers. This lack of courtesy and professionalism was appalling. Furthermore, the staff member's attempt to justify their behavior by invoking the name of our country, India, was completely uncalled for and offensive. It's unacceptable for a business to exploit national identity to mask their poor service. Overall, I strongly advise against dining at this establishment. The disrespectful treatment and lack of professionalism demonstrate a clear disregard for customer satisfaction. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this restaurant at all costs."

"We tried this place as we were staying in a nearby holiday cottage. It seemed a good place to have a lazy Sunday lunch after a long journey the days before. I had originally tried to book a table but was told they didn't accept dogs in the restaurant or bar but we might be OK outside. It was a lovely day so we decided to sit outside anyway but I was surprised when I went to the bar to order to see a family in there with a dog!! I didn't get a welcome but the staff did eventually admit it was a day when everything was going wrong and we were bang on 12 so service was only just beginning. The were friendly enough but just distracted and disorganised. Soup for our starter was a bit light in terms of portion and not very hot. My squat lobster in garlic butter was a bit thin on the butter. Another dish of langoustines was OK but underwhelming. We had much better simple seafood at half the price at the Oyster Shed in Carbost. I think the bar would make a good drinking spot but the food was below par."

"dipped to lunch before they visit the castle. jacket kartoffel with salmon salad was one of the best I ever had. a true triumph. "Considering the reputation and high standards of this hotel, it is amazing how at home you feel right away. We were welcomed after our long 5 hour drive from Glasgow with a glass of fizz by the open log fire. It was just the refreshment we needed and totally set us up for what the rest of the weekend would be like. All of the staff were so friendly and keen to make us feel welcome. The majority of other guests were over a certain age and clearly were made of big bucks. However the staff never treated us any different which was so refreshing as often a couple of young twenty somethings can be highly judged in these kinds of places. Breakfast was an absolute treat. Essentially a three courser with toast and a fresh scone to start with a selection of homemade hams. Followed by a first course choice I went for the porridge both days which was the best porridge I've ever had. So creamy and delightful with subtle but perfect tastings of cinnamon nutmeg. The hot smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on a muffin to follow was so tasty and filling, perfect fuel for a day of exploring on Skye. We treated ourselves to the 5 course menu at night. Now bearing in mind this also includes canapés and amuse bouche, we were absolutely fit for bursting afterwards. The kitchen team are so imaginative and the attention to detail in each dish is incredible. It was such a joy and I was devastated when I finished the final piece of homemade tablet!! My least favourite dish (so hard to decide) was the Parma ham and monkfish in a peanut sauce, I think I'd been looking forward to it too much but I found the flavours didnt really marry well together. My favourite though was the sweetcorn chowder with a popcorn crumb so so unusual and it just worked out perfectly!"

Greshornish House

"We are just returning from a three night stay at Greshornish House Hotel and a truly wonderful and very luxurious mini break at this marvellous hotel. From start to finish, all staff could not have been more helpful and very professional although at the same time, being very friendly and going above and beyond. The location is perfect for a true getaway and the hotel itself is very well maintained and in scottish/classic design; stunning dinning room, bar, lounge area with huge wooden fire and billiard room all to enjoy. Our room, Mull, was perfect and so clean and well equipped. Beautiful 4 poster bed and it had just been fitted with a lovely new beige carpet and stunning dark wooden furniture; all very tasteful. Room service was so attentive too and we always came back to an immaculately maintained room. Food at this hotel is very good, starting with a delicious breakfast where you can have fresh fruit pots, yogart with honey or chai seeds and smoothies too, cold meats, cheeses; that's just for starters!!! Then a cooked breakfast from a very big choice of items catering for vegan, gf and vegetarian diets. Yet again, nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff. The two girls serving were so chatty and cheerful and so helpful too, a delight at all times. We had dinner on two nights and this didn't disappoint; very well presented, flavourful and delicious starters, mains and yes we even managed a scrumptious chocolate fondant pudding one night!!! We shall be returning for definite and probably the same time next year as we had the best weather, snowy and cold; Greshornish Hotel and surrounding Skye looked beautiful. Loved every part of our stay and please disregard any negative comments for this hotel as they are just simply not warranted."
